Costume Advise for Someone Else

How about those costumes with the flesh-colored bras? Or the ones with the embellishments on the nude tights? Nobody is paying attention to your dancing when they are trying to figure out where you end and the costume begins.

Although as soon as I posted the paragraph above, I realized it was in the same thread as the discussion about using flesh-colored fabric to camouflage a body issue....

I guess there is a difference between making a tactical decision to use nude-illusion fabric as part of a costume (whether it is to minimize an ostomy/visible scars/a distractingly pale belly, to provide foundational support, to hide tattoos, etc) versus using it to titillate the audience (those nude bras) or just being decoratively weird and putting rhinestones and sequins on your shins.

I guess the answer is to be unambiguous, embrace your inner Souheir Zaki, and wear outrageously bright, matching stomach covers so people know they're not seeing skin?

At one time, I could fine some amazing arm and leg accessories but nowadays they're almost impossible to find so more and more I make my own. The newer costumes today (the very expensive ones) have some beautiful accessories, although some costumes have so much "stuff" that I find myself looking at it all more than watch the dance.

I just saw some of those where the skirts were overkill, the dancer would drown in fabric!

In that case it is the bra, not something for the belly or if you need something to cover an arm or leg etc. A nude fabric bra is always an issue.

are you joking or real? Hahaha I can not tell

Nope, I'm serious. I almost felt sorry for her except she consistently rejected any kind of wisdom and wore out her welcome everywhere. Talk about the fruit of your labors, she sure reaped what she sowed.

Regarding Instagram, it's pretty useless for just about any kind of forum, but I go on there to see all the funny and cute photos of animals. It clears my head and causes no stress. However, I would like to see more come back here for discussions, because I find here there is more courtesy. Tribe and Bhuz were complete s**t shows and blood sports, and at this point in my life, I don't have time for stupid drama.

we should try to get people to come back, I already started to mention this place on Facebook.

My Instagram I use for the same reason as you and I post cute pictures and garden stuff. And follow friends on there. Can I follow you on there?

If it helps anyone, I have a brief article/tutorial on my website about how to make "floating sleeves". I wrote it after several dance sisters asked me about mine. "So simple even male can do it." - But if something in the article isn't clear, I do want to know about it so I can fix it!

I have a FB group for costume tips, and this one is tricky:

“What's a good costume style for belly that bulges..? I also have an ostomy bag that I need to cover . I had surgery and my saiidi dresses are too tight around my hips.”
Would drapes or lots of beaded fringe work?
I have a large tattoo on one side of my tummy I often use drapes to cover it. I like it but other people may not.

just want to add, i Do think people would like a place for discussions. Facebook is too disjointed, but great for extra specialised subjects, but can be a headache to navigate and search for posts relevant to discussion points, insta and tictok are..... not places for any kind of discussion at all

I think that too! Even people who never experienced proper forums might really like them, they are just a way better medium for dance.

Just what this thread needs is another tangent, but something has been nagging at me for a while (not in a bad way), and seeing the name "Fotia" reminded me of it.

Years ago, somebody was rhapsodizing on Bhuz about how one of their favorite songs was Warda's version of "Maqadir," and I keep wondering if it was you, Greek Bonfire. Was it, or am I misremembering and confusing you with someone else?

No, wasn't me! That Bhuz forum sure occupied a lot of time when I was at work with little to do.
