Brocade Spiral Silver

Shifting to Plan B (unknown). Do not recommend brocade as a fabric for dance costumes. Beautiful, but doesn't take a needle well. Currently ripping stitches. (n):poop:

Oh, I didn't think of that, brocade tends to be "fraytastic". Seams have to be reinforced up the wazoo and embroidery has to be backed. Is it savable?

Pulled the fabric completely off the belt / tossed in dumpster. Behaving badly now /won't improve later. Plan B- stretch velvet (hardy fabric) green with silver glitter dots on it. (Which means reevaluating fringe and stones, for over all look.) Been a while since I'd made such a questionable fabric choice, so it made me smile. It truly does happen to everyone.

Regroup- if there's enough fabric, mermaid skirt / bra /belt. Perhaps appliques out of the purple fabric. Never tried creating appliques out of prefab fabric before, so it will be an adventure.

What I've learned to date- applique theory is successful.

Aleene's Ok TO WASH-IT 4 oz bottle (Amazon, does not qualify for free shipping).
Flat board (one that you never plan to use again).
Flipped fabric over (back side showing) and lightly glue the outline of each applique.
Allow 24 hours to dry, then gently shift (so it doesn't adhere to board). Then another 24 hours to dry. Depending on humidity, may take three days to dry. Shift place on board each day. (Warning- three days of yard work / too tired to shift fabric. That glue is fierce once it set.) Shift each day saves aggrivation later.
Dollar store gift tissue paper. Once the glue has set, put one sheet of tissue paper on top of it, and loosely roll. This allows for the next section to be treated with glue without damaging the prior section.
Once finished, gently cut the netting outline away from applique. Make them as big as you like.

Plan to glue the appliques to the skirt, belt and bra. Will it work? Who knows, I'm still in the glue stage.

I've seen some pretty nice outcomes using similar techniques - and I've seen some train wrecks as well. You won't know until you're into it! Looking forward to the results...

Update- holiday season (Oct., Nov., Dec.) = utter chaos. Renovated and painted three rooms. Company is coming for a visit. Getting ready for Hogwarts Triwizard tournament (Halloween party and treasure hunt) for fifteen kids. Which also means making the property safe for small people hopped up on sugar. Have I worked on dance costumes? No. But I have taken dance classes and taught a two hour zills class (that was cool). Mostly listening to Egyptian music (cd's) on an old boom box and dancing in the kitchen. Wishing everyone joy and happiness this holiday season.

I'd be interested in hearing your techniques for teaching Zills. I've been asked to...
