Not that you suggested it, but just in case, don't use just youtube as i gets banned in some countries, so that must be mighty frustrating for them.
Other than that, I agree that you don't have any choice with the digital wild west, so you may as well make sure that what you want is out there, alongside the stuff you don't want out there. We can't control what people see, only do our best to add. There are some trashy websites that would look unprofessional and desperate to be on, but youtube is way too generic and big for that to apply

Youtube is good for one other reason.
When you create a website, it's invisible to the search engines. Sites like Google will pay no attention to your website until it has some "authority", meaning it has to be more than a few months old, and it has to have lots of other sites linking to it. If you post a video on Youtube, then embed a copy of the video on your site, that's a link. So it's very good advertising for your site indirectly as well as directly. I also think Youtube videos are a good way to judge a dancer's style. In fact, my whole website is based on that idea - it's a collection of Youtube videos of Australian belly dancers so people can choose a performer or teacher based on more than just a description!

Amazing control over those abs.
![]() anyway, I think this is more just someone fooling around. Perhaps some teenage boy? As far as being profesional to post on You Tube, I think it has it's legitimate use. Much like TV programming, much of it is drivel with only a few worthy shows. There are some great clips on You Tube that I've enjoyed very much. Some that made me laugh - Like the gold hotpants and elfshoes dancer, and some that made me shake my head, like the 'stripper belly dancer'. I don't think it's unprofessional to post on You Tube, but rather that if one is a professional, they should post clips worthy of their profession and of the respect of others. |

I'm going to be the crabby one and say the opposite - I consider YouTube the cesspool of the Internet and wouldn't ever post a video of mine on it - willingly. But Tarik's correct - someone, somewhere will post one of you whether you want/like it or not. There are at least 3 of me there. Sigh...
At the very least - if you want to post them on YouTube for some of the positive reasons others have listed; go ahead, but keep your own site professional and post the videos there as well. Nothing screams "amateur" than to have a link to an ad-based, "free" service on an otherwise professional looking site. I see it as much the same thing as having your "professional" site hosted on Geocities or similar.
