Thanks for that! That meaning I had gotten from the dancer Morocco in it's usage/context of Maghrebi Arabic.

one should be careful with Sheikhat it is very close to the word Sh*t if it's pronounced wrong it is plural also that would be lots of sh*t
lol, definitely wouldn't want to make that mistake!

the word is driven from the word old as of old age, now it can means many things to different people. In the golf area it is a title for the rulers and their family you basically born to be one. In Saudi Arabia and Egypt it would be a religious knowledge, as well as being just old person but in a respected way. The tricky part is sometime it used by people who claim knowledge of the future communicate with the dead and being able to do supernatural things, they are basically criminals who take advantage of poor people. I really don't know about Morocco

Mine english is not so good, but i try to explaine the meaning of the word Shikhat in Morocco.

the word shikhat means in morocco dancers who entertain. The regularly they entertain men. they always dance in troups. I am original from morocco, when i visite morocco mine family arange a party to welcome me with the shikhat. the music what they dance on called CHAABI.

This shikhat are mostely fat, because the man like heave weighted women. the dance is earthy and energic and its all about the shake the but and hips. the arms are often not used. Unfortunately this women have a bad name, beacause some of them are protistuees. Every girl in morocco be able to dance like the shikhat, but in weddings you must measure out because its wild and it can be sexy for the man.

also you have a difference in shikhat

the origenal shikhat

the modern chikhat

the folklore chikhat (very old dance this is the floklore dance from morocco south of morocco)

folklore shighat nord morocco

Hey Loubna, Thank you so much for the explanation and the clips as I was wondering about this dance. I have to think and reflect of what you have said, can you attach small audio file with how you pronounce the word" shikhat " so I can hear it from a native. I my have been wrong and it is totally different word than what I thought it is. Thank you again~Mahmoud

Thanks to both Salome and Loubna for the information and clips. I've never heard of shikhat and have found the whole topic really interesting I particulalry liked the clip of the south Morrocan folkdance - also slightly off topic loved two of the dancers dresses in the modern chikhat particualry the green.

Loved it! The hip moves are very close to certain African dances..earthy and flamboyant!
