I saw little dancing. It was mostly presentation of fire. I thought it would have entertainment value, but it really lacked any of the drama or novelty I would have expected.
Added to that, I agree that it's dangerous, not only to the dancer, but the audience too should an accident occur...and...it will. No matter HOW well rehearsed, malfunctions happen (as seen when the dancer with the 'pole' repeated lost the balance while it was on her head).
Dancers should spend more time learning the art of dance than prop work...
JMHO...

As someone who spins fire poi, my first thought was about fire safety. Synthetic fabrics and fire make for hipscarves that are melted to one's body. Yipes.

Also, as a Festie, I'm really not thrilled with people wearing fakeloric costumes while performing at a RenFest. But I'm a Virgo and I tend towards snarkiness :-)

Which was more boring, the drumming or the dancing? I dunno.

It was pretty standard drum circle kind of music....it's not exciting, but the drummers might not have been pro's

*ahem* before we totally destroy these dancers id like to say something. im pretty darn sure this was the preformance where they were dressed up as pirates, like 99.9 percent sure, because the fair was themed. these dancers are the flowers of araby and they were just doing dancing to that constant drum beat song because it wasnt like a set up show. it was like a thing you could walk up to or pass. i know one of the flowers of araby (shes not in this clip) and although this may not be the best clip theyre extremely talented so please dont completely trash them.

edit: i must apologize, these are not the flowers of araby but they are dancing with the flowers of araby at this particular show, ive seen other clips of the flowers of araby dancing in this show and they to were dancing to this constant drum beat song, even though they are in 2 completely different groups. i could ask them why they where all dancing to this repititious drum song if you guys like

I'm not a fan of gimmicks in dance, and fire (in my own little ol' opinion) falls into that category. It reminds me of high school majorettes twirling fire batons.
