Roll Eyes Recent Randa Kamel video... kind of strange dancing..

Hi all !!
Just found this video on youtube.
I have to confess, Randa IS at this time ot modern Cairo my fav dancer.
I look her video's for hours etc, just like her.
But I saw this video excited and at the end was wondering.
Is it me? or its something strange going with her dance?

?

My favourite too, but not based on this performance.
I found it a bit strange too. Windmill arms and a lot of jerks and flinging herself about. I wonder where she is going with this? Echo's of Dina in here,

I saw this on bhuz last nite and I was worried abt Randa and where she is going. She already has a reputation amongst her community that she doesn't dance and flaps around the stage. This is way over. I didn't like it at all. She is very energetic for sure. The wings weren't good fit either. Love the music. Her taxim is different too. Dina here and there. Is she trying too hard to re invent herself?? I am big fan of her and studied with her, but this is not for me.

No, definitely not you Maria - this dance is very, very strange. Looks like she is trying too hard and once more (I was happy when she seemed to have found her style) copying Dina.

I haven't watched many videos of Randa, but I've heard of her. I must say I've never seen an Egyptian dancer perform American Oriental! The large movements, extensive use of the arms and how she covered so much floor space. The Wings themselves were used a a veil and discarded after the entrance in typical Egyptian fashion. But she was moving so energetically, the full beauty of the Wings were lost!
In additon to Dina-isms(tsk,tsk) I noticed some Tito influences as well...a subtle masculine approach, in-your-face attitude.
Yeah defintely something different. I wonder who are her new inspirations?

I actually quite liked the "windmill arms" - they look cute on her... I'd never ever try to fit those to my body though... or to most of the dancers.

I can't say if in this particular video she is dancing any differently than usual - hasn't she always been very energetic, very much dancing "out of the body" and throwing in something somewhat shocking every now and then? Dunno, I have never seen her live, and have seen very few videos of her, so my opinion is more based on rumours though

I thought Randa was as mesmerising as ever in this clip!! Fabulous! Although I dont really like to see her doing the 'dina drunken stumble', just too similar to Dina. Randa is an amazing performer! I am doing workshops with her very soon and cant wait!

Default Randa

Dear Gang,
This is just my educated opinion, but I think perhaps that, like all dancers everywhere, Randa might be going through a growth phase right now, where her usual stuff just feels like she has outgrown it, and she is experimenting with how to move forward. I still see her "Randaness" throughout the clip, but I also see where she is trying on new things, and some of them do not appear from my point of view to work that well, but others look pretty good. In five years we will see what we will see.
I think we sometimes forget that the stars go through the same kinds of agony and ecstacy with their dance that we do with ours, as far as experiencing growing pains.
In her case, we also have to take a look at who her competition is. The ever adorable Soraya and the very flashy and dramatic Esmasan seem to be the biggest fish she is dancing with. Neither one is Egyptian and they both are flashier than her, though not better dancers for sure. She is still my favorite of the modern crop..... and I WISH she had a better costumer, but then, I used to wish the same thing about Suheir Saki!
Regards,
A'isha
