Dear Caroline, At least there are still a few Egyptian dancers dancing, thank goodness! Liza is one of the very few expatriate dancers who really seems to get the right essence in her dance. So many just seem to not quite get the right cultural feeling in what they are doing. Liza is Persian. Regards, A'isha |

Anyway, I think one reason I don't like Randa's dancing (Priscilla might agree) is her shimmy. It's very Raqia Hasan: a knee generated shimmy. I think it looks too aggressive and not feminine.

Dear Caroline,
I think I know of the Lebanese dancer you speak of. There's a Bassema who use to work at Awtar in Beirut. I've seen an old video of her before the surgeries...I'm pretty sure she got an eye lift and a boob job...as well as losing a lot of weight (she was quite big by Lebanese standards!). She use to wear more traditional chunky Lebanese costumes but as of late she went crazy in the costuming department. I describe her dancing style as "Nadia Jamal on speed". Very fast and JAZZY! Are we speaking of the same dancer? Here's a video of her performing to Amarein by Melhim Barakat in Beirut: YouTube - Bassima Bellydancer Quote:

mmm... not sure., it could well be although she looks very different. I will ask my daughter and get back to you.
the Basima I am speaking of has launched a huge publicity campaign with Billboards displaying her in Al Haram St. Her costumes were over the top sexy with huge boobs and lips. No doubt she will become the next best thing. People dont seem to give a sh!t as long as they dance in Cairo. On the other hand Basima may calm down a little and cool the dance image and stop trying so hard. I despair when I see a dancer disfigured with cosmetic surgery it is so in fashion in Cairo these days. A dancer and club owner whom I have become close to in Cairo looks like a dead ringer for Pete Burns and that is the honest truth. |
