OK, if you don't want to see Hank Marvin of the Shadows doing a Carmen Miranda number in full drag, step away now...
YouTube - Cliff Richard at the movies 1068 (3) Hang on in there - about a third of the way in there's a Roman orgy ( - relax everyone, TV 1960's style, and Cliff keeps himself pure) accompanied by a belly dancer. No idea who she is but not just a chorus girl shaking her tail feather, for a change.Eurgh... I Yi Yi Yi don't think so Hank. ![]() Last edited by Aniseteph; 04-01-2008 at 10:09 AM. |

I'm going to have nightmares about Hank dressed as Carmen Miranda! ![]() What a great find, Aniseteph! The westernised version of Aziza, complete with non-Arabic drum solo, was so kitsch. By the power of my archive TV uber-nerdiness I can tell you that the dancer was Rozeta Ahalyea but I'm afraid I can't find any information apart from her name. She looks as though she was a "proper" belly dancer rather than just a dressed-up go-go dancer, though. Fascinating! ![]() |

This is a photo of her in her heyday on the sand dunes. Doesn't look like the same dancer as in the youtube clip but it's not the greatest resolution so hard to tell. Bellydance Legends of Sydney |

Certainly! The British Film Institute Film & TV Database: BFI | Film & TV Database | AHALYEA, Rozeta You can always email them if you think the record is incorrect.
According to Wikipedia, she was 16 in 1962: Rozeta Ahalyea - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Here's what she looks like this century: http://iblog.net.au/halcyonparks/2007/06/15/rozetta/ Last edited by Suheir; 05-22-2008 at 09:38 AM. |

I think clip, pic and 2007 link could well all be the same dancer. Same shaped face, similar smile...
The clip is 1968 which would be in her early 20's, note heavy eye make up and false lashes. The "sand dune" pic looks 1970's to me - in her late 20's/early 30's? - and the make up is much more natural, which fits with the natural sun-kissed seventies Farrah Fawcett thing (aargh, cheesecloth shirt flashback). If she got her passport and worked overseas a couple of years after starting in 1962 she could well have been in swinging groovy London in the late sixties ![]() |
