My version of it is that if the same thing was executed by someone completely irrelevant to us, we'd just look at it, think of "gawd, how awful" and go on with our lives. Because in my opinion it seems just plain boring and does not have a point of whatsoever. But it sticks to our heads because she has a connection with what we do. And especially, because her behaviour contradicts with the principles many of us have.
