Hi Yasmina,

It great to see different interpretations of the same dance. I had this thought also and I am compiling the clips of Ya Msafir Wahdhak. There are my comments.

clip 1 is the best for me. She danced with feeling.
Clip 2 and 3 are not bad. I liked the moves she chose in clip 3.
Clip 4 kinda tribaly
clip 5 Reachal is better in ATS
clip 6 is a lebanese interpretation. Not too bad.
clip 7 Maria is too wild. I didn't like her wild shoulder shimmies. They looked like wild boobshakes.
Clip 11 Meital(israeli dancer), i didn't like her taxim.
12 n 13 not bad.

Can't wait to hear others comments!!!
Tks for sharing the clips Yasmina!!!

Cheers
Janaki

Dear Janaki, I'm soo sorry, but I added some new videos and changed the order, so now I don't know which video you refer to by the numbers...

Can't wait for your Ya Msafir Wahdhak list!

P.S. I know I had the video of Suheir Zaki dancing Shik Shak Shok in my favourites list of YouTube, but now it's gone and I can't seem to find it! Who has this video? Please post if you do.

I didn't watch number 2 (it hurt my ears) and numbers 11 to 16 (is it my pc or was there really no sound?)
For the rest, I'm no expert so I can't really judge, but I liked number 1 the most, except for the part where she used her sleeve as veil. I didn't like number 7 because she moved in a too busy way (does that make sense?), like the head movements. Also I don't like it when dancers (and she wasn't the only one) show of techniques like backbends in the taqsim part.

Edit: Oh, the video order changed! Well I liked Asmahan Medinet best and I really didn't like Maria Shashkova (green costume)

I know what you are saying moon...what is it with people, taxims and backbends??? I dont find it impressive and actually can be uncomfortable to watch. Maria Shashikova's interpretation was bordering on the ridiculous...those turkish drops

I like Sofia Sarkisyan's costume. She started out with a little bit of salsa and she really showed an energetic dance with good shimmying. I have not watched any others yet...lol

Wow!! Thanks for posting all those! its going to take me a while to watch them all but I watched some of the first 5 and I didnt really like any of them.

Some had good moves but the moves were so rushed. it was like a frenzy of dance moves. Once i look properly ill give some more constructive comments.

I love the suhair zaki interpretation of the song. It was written for her, was it not? She is the queen IMHO. I only have it at home. i dont knowe where it is on youtube. If I find it i will post.

There is a DVD called Egyptian dancers Vol1. Someone does an alrite interpretation there.

3. Maria Shashkova

The lime costume works for her...I like lime too, but I am not sure I could chose it for a costume color. Some of her moves are kinda sketchy, but I like the drop in the middle of her performance. She seems to be strong in her upper body isolations. Her shimmy's look to need some work with different variations. Are there many busty BDers? I have mostly seen BDer's who tend to be smaller chested. I myself am busty and I have wondered this since I have started dancing.
