I'll give my opinions before reading the opinions of others, so I don't change my judgement ;-)
First I have to say that it is very hard to judge. Some dancers are professionals and some are students (I guess), so I did write in my judgement when I thought it was a student, because I don't want to judge them too hard. (However I can be wrong of course!) It takes time to watch them, so I'll keep adding to this post till I saw them all. In order of appearance: 1.) Mayada Al Khouri: looks like an advanced student to me, her movements are not very controlled. She waves her arms too much that is a pity. The dancing is not really my style. 2.) Sofia Sarkisyan: This looks like a professional belly dancer to me, I like her style better then the first but it's still a little bit too busy to my taste. I like the fact that she seems to be having fun. 3.) Maria Shashkova: I know she is a good dancer, but I had difficulties following her hip movements because this costume just doesn't work. The color looks good on her though. I didn't like the floorwork. 4.) interesting to see how much people's dance styles change over the years! 5.) Asmahan Medinet: First I thought she isn't actually dancing to Shik Shak Shok, or that the music isn't properly edited over the clip. But lateron it seems she is, somehow her dancing just doesn't suit to the music. (student or pro, not sure) 6.) Sarah Naadirah: I like her style, it seems to suit the music, but I'd like to see her smile, it's like she's not having fun (very important I think!) 7.) Majel: a pity that she dances in such a big hall, she gets a bit lost in it. I think she's an advanced student. 8.) Isis: I like her intrepretation! Good dancer! 9.) Unknown - stage: found it hard to follow this, bad video quality and the camera zooms in all the time. But for what I have seen, that is not really my taste. 10.) Sabaa: I asume she's an advanced student. A pity of the video quality, I like her dancing! more to come soon...

I have some time now to have a look at the rest! Wow that is a long list....
11. Najla Nar: I liked this, but not the backbend thingy. Nice costume, but I think the skirt should not be see through it's distracting to see the leg movements. 12. Meital: This wasn't really my taste. The backbend, split etc was too much. The sides of her leotard were creeping up and showing 2 gaps above her hipscarf. 13. Unknown - home video: (student) too busy and uncontrolled. But this is obviously a student. 14. Carol: somehow this intrepretation didn't really suit the music. 15. Amira: (student?) I don't know what was going on here, but it looked weird, maybe it's because of the dark setting. Seemed she was only running around.

1. Mayada Al Khouri had great energy, still young has not fully developed her stage presence.
2. Sofia Sarkisyan I liked her energy very professional. 3 and 4. Maria Shashkova was just fun to watch. Younger she needed a little performance skills, older she had them. 8. IsisI liked also. 9. Unknown I liked, she was very professional, her skirt needed to loosen up a little, looked like she couldn't move. 10. Sabaa Was good, but didn't take advantage at all of the stage. Probally too choreographed to inprovise. 12. Meital was good, but those ladies didn't give her any room. 14. Carol was good just needs some stage performance time and she will get past her shyness. The rest I really didn't like. Most were too choreographed and didn't move with the music. |

Hi folks.
This thread is not dead yet Here is another Shik Shak Shok interpretation: the one that I danced at the "Oriental Soul" Show (organized by Maria Aya) in Athens I hope you like it.
