Default Wow

I had never seen any of Nagwa's Footage..how great!

I, personally, adore the stage presence and the "roughness" of hte first performance. She is truly dynamic and I am that kind of dancer....I like to feel up the stage or performance area with my energy right at the start so i can draw on it throughout the piece. I perferred the dancing of the first but, like yasmine, liked the music for the second piece better! Thanks for sharing those clips.

She was truly a poineer of modern Raks Sharqi and most likely set the pace for dancers and choreographers alike to freely express themselves through this dance.

There are some very nice film clips of Nagwa on the Legends of Bellydance dvd. I think the dates of the dvd are about 1945 to 1976, but can't recall for sure.

What an interesting video! Am I correct in saying that it seems like she generally dances with her legs further apart than the other big dancers of her time?

She does - but that doesn't bother me at all. Many dance mostly flat footed and with legs frequently far apart, it doesn't have to be a detriment.

I think I just need to see some more of her. Basically I still find what I've seen awkward and clunky, mostly from the waist up but that's been explained.
