Once upon a time, I lost some weight and thought I could make do with a skirt that fit my fuller-hipped self by pinning the upper part of the skirt a little tighter. The resulting hip width was okay, but I'd failed to take into consideration the additional length of the skirt due to loss of hip girth to hold it up. If I caught my foot in the hem once, I did it a dozen times before I resorted to hoisting up the skirt with both hands every time I traveled across the floor.:lol:

Roll the waistband! But you were already on stage, kinda hard to hide that!

If it were only an inch or so too long, sometimes you can get away with staying in releve' and sort of slide stepping your feet.

I was an old-fashioned AmCab dancer- always danced half-pointe but I guess my feet weren't big enough.

My current teacher is Egyptian style, and is always trying to get me to dance more flat footed - she isn't very successful!
