Black Henna Beware

Unfortunatly i've seen it advertised on the net and in some shops although I have to say in my experience its not as widely avaliable as natural henna which is good. Also I am always looking for good and different recipes to try out so please feel free to share any :)

I once saw henna being applied in Dubai, in a shopping centre, of which I forget the name except it had a British home stores shop in it. The henna that was being applied looked fantastic on darker skin. We are not so lucky, where it is brownish tan for a day or two then fades. One thing I discovered was it works better on nourished skin, for this we used to massage in olive oil then apply. One idea was to mix lemon essential oil to the mix for it's photogenic properties, exposure to the sun had it's own effect, in that the sun reacted with the lemon or other citrus oil to create a pattern where the oil had been.

The henna fades over days due to skin drying and flaking, so keep the skin well moisturised, olive oil is wonderful for this, I even use it for shaving, that is when I tire of the beard, olive oil and a cut throat razor, far better than foam and a mach 3.

Can't quite remember the other recipes, but might over the next few days, though seem to remember neem oil was used in preparation to applying the stuff sometimes.

Hope this helps some.

FYI the term "black henna" is sometimes used to refer to henna/indigo mixtures. The combination of the orange and blue dyes makes a very dark black hair dye. It is perfectly safe.

If it should happen that I do henna again and seek a darker result, I will ask, if the response is indigo, then I am cool. If I have no answer then I am wary and likely to pass by.

Which reminds me, I should warn my ex step son about this stuff, but can you imagine the difficulties involved when we don't communicate, and communiction often brings hostility.

Black Henna is illegal by European directive so if you see it being used and the artist is using a ready made up powder not their own concoction with something known to be safe , you know what to do!
Anywhere in the world I find POLICE to be a magic word.
Then again why not just stick to brown.
