Hey Khanjar,

You should check out tribe.net in addition to here. There are many more tribal-interested people on there. including some men's groups. IMO, the tribal women over there are (on average) much more "snobby" about cabaret, than we are about tribal. Seriously, it's just that 75% of the people on here just aren't that interested in tribal - and it's usually aesthetic, not values-based as you'll see with some of the tribal folks.

And don't let anyone tell you you can't do both.;)

Come on, y'all - cut us tribal fusion girls some slack!;)

You can find lots of tribal-oriented people on tribe.net, however, there are just as many Middle Eastern dance aficionados/fans there - it depends on which tribes you frequent.

Really? It seems like there's far more tribal oriented peeps/groups on Tribe to me, but maybe that's because that's part of what I surf there for.

Here is an amusing link to a tribe thread on Rachel Brice in a Cab-style costume. Most of the respondants are complimentary, but some think it's "weird", "strange", or "funny". One ATS girl asks why the audience is smiling...is Rachel wearing a peep-hole bra, or twirling her tassels? That's the kind of sexualized/judgemental reaction I'm referring to.

Makeda, I'm curious...are you tribal fusion only, or do you study/perform other styles too?

I study and perform other styles, too. I'm a member of the Niraja Dance Compnay, which is a "cabaret" bellydance troupe. As a solo artist, I do perform tribal fusion and more traditional styles of bellydance.

Dear Makeda,
Niraja and Lotus were one of the very best dance performances at the Fifi event in Texas. You were well rehearsed, technically skilled, fun and your costuming was superb.

And I got to have the pleasure of torturing her twice, once at Mia-Naja's and once at BOCA! Next time we have to hang out more.

I'm an "American Cabaret" dancer - but with that said, I do love Rachel Brice:

Last Halloween, after a performance.
