I manage to get logged on but couldn't post elsewhere as it said that cookies needed to be accepted, but I didn't see where I could do that!
If this forum is back I'm so very very happy! Please do confirm! Thank you.

I did know about that festival but unfortunately the timing wasn’t right for me work-wise and while beautiful at this time of year, Yorkshire is sadly a little too far for me. Maybe next year.
What are the seams like? Simple stitches or a kind of double or overlocked stitch? My hunch is that you’d be able to unpick the stitches, remove the elastic and replace. Depends also on the fabric. And yes, makes no sense to stitch through elastic.
I suppose it’s one of those things where you...
Do you recommend any books on BD? My old teacher had a book that was like the history of BD. It was a big coffee table type book.
But really I'm looking for any books of worth on BD. Thank you.
Thanks Shanazel! Apart from a belly dance workshop in February, this will be the first big dance event that I'll be attending in a long time. I used to be a Zumba instructor (lol, dare I say it) and we used to have big events in the UK, but that has stopped pretty much so I'm really looking...
Anyone in the U.K. here going to the Celebrating Dance Festival in Torquay at the end of this month?

I’m going with my DH, so I’m not looking for a roommate but thought it would be nice to meet up.
Just for fun - Columbo tries to interrogate Mariette Hartley during her belly dance lesson:
She's not very good, but her costume is nice. The year is 1977/78. Might have a little historical value as to what dancers were wearing then and style.
I thought that some of you who dance with finger cymbals might like this academic article on cymbal playing as depicted in an amazing mosaic of a female musical ”band”, from Syria, end of 4th/beginning of 5th CE (A.D.).

Old thread, but I really like Neon. I returned to belly dance with her Love Potion DVD (and I’m still working through it). She explains the moves very well (almost too thoroughly sometimes, but it’s good to keep at the technique). I find her voice rather soothing. It’s the one thing that...
Lol, no one was offended at the making of this movie. No one knows how a gypsy danced in 1492 (the year in which the novel takes place). It’s not supposed to be a pure Flamenco dance obviously. Gina was not a trained dancer and I think she does a pretty good job. For cinematic purposes the...
i believe Tourbeau meant it in the sense of black face, that is appropriating the culture in a superficial, insensitive manner.
I do like this incarnation of Esmeralda by Gina Lollabrigida. They try in her dance to incorporate some flamenco, and what seems to me, medieval elements:
A belated thank you Tourbeau. When I scrolled down I thought that was a different article but I should have realised that Cigano meant gypsy as it’s fairly close to the Italian zingara (my second language). i have looked into it a bit and had never seen how the Romani dance. It’s quiet...
I hope you’ve recovered and the temps will go down soon for you. Although I’m from NY, and I love hot summers, I’ve never experienced 104F as I’ve done today -in England! Oh how I used to lament the cold dull English summers, lol.
I did like to go to our closest NY Ren Faire, but they keep...
Very hot in the UK today (max 100F) and tomorrow (max 105F) (where I am). It's a dry heat though (makes a change in Britain when it can be warm, muggy and cold at the same time) and there is a breeze so it's not really too bad -at the moment.
I could have pulled that off in my teens, but not now.:D. It would be interesting to see how one of the old ones were constructed. I imagine that there was a very stiff bias material with the chiffon stuff on top.
I think this is what you mean Ariadne? Shahrzad's top looks like a bandeau...
