Just moved and therefore with new teacher trying to get my head round the ne shoulder shimmy (and wondering why) also (wondering why you would teach this when it is still necessary to tell students that their belts shouldn't rattle with shoulder shimmy)
So am I a wuss or a purist. Do you do...

I have learnt bollywood routines twice. The first was from a well known dancer who gives workshpos in various different styles. She had obviously had lessons in technique - although I got the impression that she had had just enough to be one step ahead.
the second is...
Of african, indian and Gypsy actually.
I honestly didn't know what to say for a moment - then I reasoned that a beginner's class in an Essex village, where everyone is dancing for fun - they probably don't want to know anyway.
And I'm sure the teacher doesn't want me to disagree with her.
Were you at Shimm in the City. Do you have, or know someone who has 3 dance shoes!!! Sunday morning I found I had only one shoe. Last saw the other one in Jillina!!!

Anyone else...
Was just browsing ebay and discovered that there are loads of "Learn Bellydance from Beginner to Expert on One Disc. I investigated one and found that although the cover picture was a stock shot of a model posed as oriental dancer, the shots taken from the dvd were clearly Fat Chance There was...
I thought I would start a thread on dancers who don't fit the specific personal appearance criteria of some members or of the typical media presented bellydancer, but who are still non-the-less inspiring to other members.

I have been given copies of Charlotte Desorgher's new dvds to review. so while I get to grips with 4 dvds worth, I started musing about homegrown versus American. At the same time I have been reading a thread on Bhuz,
The secrets of belly dance?
which contains some thought provoking...
I have just joined a gym and done thier health assessment - pretty much as I expected except flexibility. I thought that would be a doddle BUT I came out as poor. You had to sit on the floor with your feet against a sort of coffee table and then reach forward beyond the end of your feet along...

I was watching a clip where an instructor said she was etaching Turkish camels ie chest forward, up and back and round with little movement in the hips. I thought this was Tribal camel - and it occurred to me that this is one of those moves with a great number of variations according to style...

Last week we had to talk about then and now to practise tenses. she started teling me about when she lived in Sweden and was a web-dancer in the circus. (that's the...
The novel by Louisa young. Will read and review. I know Shira's already done it but I got it in Poundland. How much was it. A pound.
That is the obligatory refrain in our house when bringing home shopping from the above.
we are just learning a dance, a section of which we are to choreograph a nippet in small groups. One of my group of 3 suggested head slides with the other (an ATS dancer) agreed. I hate head slides
1 don't think they are Egyptian style.
2 they draw attention to your cute face, unless you are...
Thought you might like to see how we decorate my house on Christmas eve. That's Percy, our very own saagy old cat. Isobel is just too good at removing herself as soon as camera button is about to be clicked
my dancing to a choreo with the rest of my class is nothing special (to put it mildly). I'm too busy remembering what comes next to concentrate on the music. I have had several nice comments about my dancing in a social setting. Basically I am able to improvise and go for it. I know however...
