First solo performance done YEAHAY!! (4-7 yr olds).

Well, I've done it, I had to tell you all while I was on a high!

My first solo performance.
It was only for my daughters' school but still a big thing for me because it's only my second performance (that one I had my teacher to follow).

I've practised and practised and thought I had it all down to a T but would you believe it halfway through the dances (I did three in total) I forgot what to do next.

I was alright for the first half of each one but then blanked and just remembered bits.

So I just improvised and I think it went well.

The adults seeemed to be impressed and the kids seemed to like it any way I had great fun.
I'll try and post some pics if I can get some.
Now I'm absolutely, almost falling asleep, exhausted !

I had to do that three times and then I taught them a few little moves and then we all had a little dance together.

Wow, congratulations ! Been there already, so my first solo is already history, but now I have an hour to entertain 6 up to 12 year olds with a sword routine and some initiation ..Any tips for me ?

Yay, happy first performance! Congratulations!

I think it is very cool that you allowed them to participate in a dance, too.

Congratulations!!!! The sky is the limit from here.
There is no other feeling quite like dancing for people.
Oh that first solo performance it becomes a bluuuuuuuuuuuur!!!!
The next performance is exciting, the one following that is addictive and so on and so on. And what a feeling when someone has been brought to tears, or mezmerised by your emotion and passion for this beautiful dance.
Cheers to you, and here's to many more solo's!!!!
(oh and by the way, only you know you're choreography, no one else has a clue, so when you forget, and you will again. IMPROVISE... With you're favourite move or moves, always have a back up couple of steps) It works every time.

Kids love to dance, and will be mezmerised by everything about you.
I teach a girls dance class, and I have used the sword, and the girls used a cane. They absolutely Loved it!!! They then took the canes home to decorate. Now they are hooked!!! Canes are available at local hardware stores.
Good Luck!!!! And enjoy!!! I know the kids will.

Thank you to you all, your advice was crucial.
My advice to anyone else is talk to these guys, they help you so much and have fun!

The children did love it, especially having ago too and I did let the slightly older children use the veils, hip scarves, coin belts and sagats, that made their day. The teacher and some of the Mums who know me have been saying how the children have been doing it at home. I think we have some budding dancers in the making.

I do have the bug to perform.

*****CONGRATS!****** One nice thing about doing a solo is only you know if you messed up.
