I gave up restaurants about 5 years ago in my mid thirties. I could still be doing it actually and get asked often but it was me who decided to quit.
I detest it now. I had enough of getting changed in tiolets and putting up with bullsh!!

These days I stick to festivals, theatre, Weddings and parties etc. I will play it by ear and see how it goes in the future.
As regards to having a reputation amongst the belly dancing community in festivals etc. this is timeless.
Same here. I don't do restaurants, despite still being asked. After 13 years of it, I hate them. When the hate kicks in, it's time to stop and move on. I still do large events, weddings, private parties, etc. Got asked to dance recently with The Brothers of the Baladi, and it was great. There was a younger dancer there, but my experience was the distinct advantage. Nothing replaces experience. You can be the youngest, fittest, most gorgeous looking dancer but if you can't dance, you're too big a mouthful of dead sea fruit for most paying audiences. I've never had a complaint yet so, I guess I'll keep on going whilst I'm in demand. I'm 51.

I think it depends on the dancer and the venue. I have a friend who is in her early sixties and very trim and you would never guess her age by looking at her. I am impressed and amazed at what she can still do and she still wears two piece bedlahs...and looks dynamite in them!
