Bellydance and ice dance just don't mix well. The grace of ice dancing mostly comes from the arms and legs, and jumps etc. Nothing like bellydance.
And bellydance is certainly not some ballroom like dance you do with a partner like that. What a bad choice. |

Perhaps more use of upper body belly dance movements, including rib cage circles, snake arms, etc. would've improved the belly danceness of the ice dance? |

That was even ghastly iceskating, I can't see how you could truly iceskate and belly dance, I think you would end up on rear end , a lot if you were truly belly dancing and skating!
To me ice skating is more ballet-ish. The veil dance was cute, but I wouldn't call it belly dance. It was a shame the Alexandra Video didn't show her whole body, you couldn't see what her legs were doing most of the time. ~Mosaic |

Here's an example of a compulsory dance in ice dance, for those that are interested. It has clips of lots of dancers doing the same dance which is essentially what ice dance is about. You'll see lots of footwork, with arms perhaps to accentuate, add interest, look good etc but it is essentially about the footwork.
They do then do an original programme, which is what the people earlier were doing, but it is within the context of this form of ice dance. Just like people here comment on where things aren't bellydance, if the couple didn't ice dance then people would say that it isn't ice dance.

I am uh.....kinda embarassed to say.....that I thought it was pretty good but not belly dance of course. It was the best belly dance on ice attempt I have seen so far but I really don't think they go togther. I agree though - this is gonna give Miles some ideas!

Never apologize for your honest opinion!
I am pretty sure a local dancer did a bellydance/wing number on rollerskates at a recent hafla I attended. But I missed the introduction, and I could not see her feet. She looked great from the knees up, though! |

OMG! A funny thought of a movie came to mind. Has anyone seen the skating movie Blades of Glory? What a riot! My husband usually doesn't watch those kinds of movies and he was hysterically laughing.
