INVITATION TO COOPERATE ON THE FESTIVAL:


III. THE BAZAR – a festival of Oriental Dance and Oriental Culture, 23rd to 25th of May, 2008, in Ljubljana

We are organizing BAZAR, a festival of oriental culture, the third year year now in Ljubljana. In the past two years, the Bazar has been a great success. And we have a long.term project of making the BAZAR an annual event. The festival aspires to introduce and nurse oriental culture in Slovenia.

The theme of this year’s festival is “The Interweaving of East and West”. In the spirit of what was announced by the European parliament and the Council of the European Union, this is the European year of international dialogue. And the BAZAR is in itself also an international dialogue.

Until now, the BAZAR was mostly oriented towards dancing. However, this year we wished to expand the festival and offer as much as we can. We want the festival to incorporate dance performances as well as: dance workshops, music, a “market” with dance clothes and accessories for oriental dancing, various offers of oriental food, and also some other activities (tourism, travel, practical art, etc.), more oriental culture (poetry, prose, theatre, fencing skills, painting, movies, etc.) and a variegated selection of oriental products (carpets, clothes, jewellery, works of art, etc.).

We want to invite as many individuals and organisations, whose activities connected with the Orient, to cooperate as possible. Thus we invite all those interested in selling and advertising their products or services. And we invite all those who want to perform in a culturally artistic programme. Also, we invite dancers of oriental dance who want to perform in the gala show on opening night to send us their offers.

The festival will last three days. On the first evening, Friday May 23rd 2008, there will be the gala show BLIŠČ ORIENTA (‘the glitter of the Orient’) at Cankarjev dom.
In a collage of dance performances, dancers from Slovenia and guests from foreign countries will present different dance styles and their combinations. On Saturday, May 24th 2008, and on Sunday May 25th 2008, the festival activities will last the entire day: culturally artistic performances, product sales and service sales, catering offers, dance workshops by dance teachers from Slovenia and from foreign countries, etc. On Saturday we will finish the day with the BAZAR PARTY, which is intended for all fans of the Orient, a night for oriental food and popular oriental music.


THE APPLICATION FOR COOPERATION IN THE FESTIVAL SHOULD INCLUDE:

* A description of the project



CONDITIONS FOR COOPERATION IN THE GALA SHOW AT CANKARJEV DOM:

* The performance should not last longer than three minutes
* The performance must be performed at the Bazar for the first time
* If we arrange the performance at the Bazar, then you will be required to send the following the organisation committee a full 21 days prior to the beginning of the festival: videotapes of the performance with costumes that you will have at the festival, music and other information (name of the performance, performer, choreographer and costume designer)

THE APPLICATION OF THE DANCERS SHOULD INCLUDE:
*A short description of the dancer or dance group (in a few sentences)
* References (where you trained, where you have performed)
* A suggestion of 3 possible styles (or combination of styles) for your performance at the festival
* A videotape of the performance
