wooo whooo!!!!! what a fun opportunity.....
1st off (& the thing I probably repeat most to my students & troupe members.....besides posture of course)... is TURN OFF YOUR BRAIN!!!
TRUST YOUR BODY>>> IT KNOWS WHAT TO DO!!!

2ndly... sounds like you have a WHOLE month to practice...
so make your cd's NOW.... double the # of sets you will be doing (so in case someone uses one of "your" songs/or you're just not "feeling" a certain set you are not stuck w/ it!!!!....) oh... & call your hostess NOW & ask what she's dancing to... so you do not choose one of "her" songs....
she may not have chosen yet, but will appreciate the fore-thought.

THEN.. PRACTICE EVERY day... at least 1hour!!!!
MAKE the time!!!!

some great advice I heard.. thiink from that book... 7 habits of highly effective people... be pro-active NOT re-active... so AT the gig.. if anyone is rude/condecending etc.... just remember... their behavior has nothing to do with you... it is just reflective of their interior landscape... so do not let them pull you into it (reacting).. instead think (pro-active).. what is the outcome I want???... usually just ignoring them is the best road...
good luck & have FUN!!!!

one time I was hired to dance for a birthday party held at a restaurant it was early in the evening before the restaurant was full... & the birthday was for a middle eastern woman who was turning 80!!!! her daughter told me that she had ALWAYS wanted a bellydancer for her birthday!!.. they had a table of about 12-14 people.
well the only other party in the restaurant was a table of 4 & one woman (very loudly) at that table went on & on about how shameful/indecent/etc.. that I was sooo exposed... blah blah blah.. (I ALWAYS wear full skirts WITH harem pants underneath.. belt NEVER too low (not that I am modest, but vain stretch marks & all, y'ah know!.... I do "cleavage" but not excessive.... AND I have NEVER been accused of being a slutty dancer... elegant is the word most would use...) anyhow, for the whole 10-15 min performance this woman went ON & ON.... I just ignored her.. esp. since I was hired for one particular table.... (Ironic... the rude woman & one other at her table had their heads covered (religious?).... but FOUR of the women at the table I was dancing for did too!!! & they were into my dance... clapping along etc! AND how INDECENT is it to be dancing for an 80 year old WOMAN!!!!)... moral of the story, on my way out, I dropped one of my class flyers on the rude woman's table & said.... I would love for you to come to one of my classes, you may change your perceptions of this dance form.... of course the rude woman never came.... but another woman at her table did!!!!!!!
(I too can be abrasive.. so I look at these kinds of experiences as opportunities to practice being "nice")
but hey also do not let these morons ruin YOUR day!!!!!!!

Hi,

Thanks for the advice, belly dancer. I have a set picked out already, but I suppose you are right and I should pick another group of songs...the lady in question is out of the country at the moment so I am unable to talk to her until she gets back. However, I will try and do my best. Thanks!

that way too you will be more prepared (w/ 2 super-polished sets) when those restaurant gigs start rolling in!!!
