I recently met a dancer who sang every single song she danced to. I know that's some kind of a gimmick and I've seen several dancers doing it (Rania, Virginia), but with this particular dancer I was so annoyed. The first time she sang was kind of cute, the second was tiresome, but the third was plain annoying. I mean, what was she doing: dancing or singing? What was she trying to prove: that she can sing Arabic and Turkish? She didn't sing the instrumental pieces because they were instrumentals. Does that experience has happened to somebody else? Has somebody seen a dancer doing a gimmick ad nauseam? Does anyone use a gimmick w/o realizing it can be annoying? Am I being too judgemental?

Before, I've seen just that which I've found ok. It's not what I do, but I can understand somebody doing it to impress the audience or play with it, but this got to my nerves. There's a local dancer that sometimes make "faces" when dancing. During a song she can make a face at one particular moment. That way the audience know if the song is sad, happy, or just plain fun. I noticed that gimmick after watching her dance several times which means she's not doing it all the time. I can stand that, but the singing was more that I could stand from a not that good a dancer. |

Well I guess it depends on the personality of the dancer.
Some sing some doesnt. I love to see dancers singing (ok opening closing mouth lol) at instrumental songs (special at chorus of songs of Oum Kalthum) this shows that they feel the song (ok I mean when they really feel it and not fake it lol) maria aya p.s. We dont need insects terminator in the dance studio, I sing during the class lol ![]() |

Maybe the singing would make more sense if you would understand the lyrics... I mean, maybe she just wants to emphasise a bit in a song every now and then? Maybe there are some key phrases that express the character of the song and that she wants to channel on to the audience? In a way I see it as doing the facial expressions.
