Re tips, if someone heads towards my bra, I lean my chest away a little, stick my hip towards them, pull the skirt or belt out a little and shimmy it a little until they've got the idea. I'll accept tips at the side of my belt, but not in my bra. People try to stuff notes in the bra cups and that's just a bit toooo personal for my liking!! |

Babylonia, thanks! It really was exciting!!
So I slept most of the time today lol, I was totally exhausted but really happy and excited!! It was great. The "band" was just one guy on a synthesizer playing turkish tunes and darbukka music. I did some 9/8 and played some zills as well, the audience was wonderful (People thought my dance was (spelling?) çok güzel ) and even the tipping went well. I did accept a tip or two along the straps of my bra from a few women there, they were in before I knew it, but then again nothing went in any off limits places, the rest went neatly to the sides of my belt.I have found out it is really true you can control the tipping with your attitude, thanks belly_dancer . Elle, this E=E thing sounds interesting, I will be sure to look into that.Anyway, I think all went well for a first time, and I feel I have learned a lot even in this one night (So Kharmine, you were right about that going there a novice and coming back a star thing lol, well.. an exhausted star with a headache, but nevertheless.. and I came back with a lot more experience than I went out with). I was nervous before, but as I got out there in my costume everything started to look up for me. I loved the experience though I didn't like the musician that much. I performed one time also with another musician, he was cool, I requested some of the Turkish songs I knew with him and I just let go and danced. After a few songs I really started having fun with both dancing and interacting with the audience, getting them to have fun and dance with me also..I had a great night, so what more can a dancer wish than to dance happily into the new year?? Happy 2007 everyone!! ![]() Last edited by Yshka; 01-03-2007 at 06:13 PM. |

Thanks Maariku, that's sweet!!! I have learned a lot from it indeed. And I have experienced now the energy live music (even if it's just one guy and a synthesizer) can give to your performance!! It's amazing. I felt as if I could just let go and have real fun with the audience, there's no steps or choreo to stick to, and I'm really starting to learn how to recognize changes in the music and knowing when to expect them now.. that made it pretty cool to improvise.
It's also nice to just dance and have fun to music you don't really know well. I only knew some of the songs I requested with one of the musicians that night. For Oryantal I chose Azize and Fire Dance, and for 9/8 I did Cadirimen Üstüne and a somewhat unorthodox version of Mastika (which sounded cool though played on a synthesizer lol). He did some improv in between so I could adjust dancing to the different songs which I absolutely loved. The other musician didn't play things I knew really, just some popular stuff with LOADS of darbukka action and a few 9/8 songs in between. I had fun nevertheless and still came out çok güzel ![]() I never really was someone who likes being the center of attention and I used to be quite shy (still am lol), but I feel I'm starting to get the hang of this "entertaining people" thing when dancing now. Let's just say I've REALLY learned a lot in many ways. ![]() --- edit: Thanks Ariella !!Last edited by Yshka; 01-04-2007 at 11:44 PM. |
