May 1st or June 21st are both bad choices when thinking about dance in Finland as May Day is already a big celebration day and June 21st is too close to Midsummer which is probably the biggest celebration day of the year... these days have already too much different activities so our bellydance day would go without notice and most dance schools are even closed these days so I would suggest some day in autumn (September or October) when there is not too many national or religious holidays in most of the Western world

Kiraze,
just out of interest, what do you do on MayDay in Finland? Here in England we do nothing except go to the pub !! Typical I know. And belive it or not, we don't even get the day off on St George's day (the patron saint of England)!! |

May Day (or *Vappu* as we call it) is a celebration day for working people and students and everybody gather then on the streets and marketplaces etc. - it is like a special carnival day when everyone have lots of fun (and lots of drinking) as it is often also seen as the first indicator of coming summer so after long winter people dress in summer clothes (even when itīs cold) and they go to tivoli and buying balloons and other fun stuff etc... I think celebrating like this is typical for especially for Finland and Sweden.
Some more explanation can be found from Wikipedia |
