ha ha me too but I co-organised the event!

It was a Celt-Arabia night and we had an Irish band and an Egyptian band and at the end they all had a fantastic Jam.
It was a fund-raising event for what is now the Liverpool Arabic Club.
The purpose was to raise money but also to acknowledge the mixed backgrounds of people in Liverpool.

As a Scottish historian and bellydancer, I can say I have NEVER done that kind of fusion (though I do have a Scottish-flavored costume). I find it rather bizarre when I do see it, because my spider sense tingles (or whatever) and the historian in me is thinking 'this is the result of BAAAAD history'.

Well, that's what I assume, anyway.

me neither..and I am an historian with the appropriate piece of paper and a Scot nor do I see how it is bAAAd history.
I don't feel offended by someone in the slightest having a joint Celtic-Arabic function
I'm not even offended by Scots or Americans bellydancing

I dont thinkn we can have every type of fusion on the planet and then single it out with celt!

The night we did was not fusion, it was half Irish/celt and half Arab.
By the way, various places in Cairo celebrate St Patricks day and I have had a fantastic time dancing to an Irish band interspersed with an Arabic music DJ at one of Cairos great music venues.
There are also CD's available called Celt Arabia.

Musicians from different cultures love to jam, what from I've seen. My local Irish Centre often features Irish/other European/African/Arab/whatever musicians playing together.
