Default Charity Events- Dancing for a Cause

One of the locals here in my hometown is organizing a charity event. It has inspired many people (including me!) to come forward and donate their time, their money, and their talent to make this a really great event. You see, she came back from her Ahlan Wa Sahlan vacation with a purpose: to help women fight breast cancer in Egypt. Getting a diagnosis and treatment is virtually unattainable for the average woman because health care is sooo expensive. Plus, being diagnosed with cancer comes with this awful label in Egyptian society.

I was wondering, have any of you either danced or organized a bellydance charity event? If so, was it a success?
Is there any cause in particular that you feel people in the bellydance community would be more inclined to participate in?

Default Charity events

Dear Michelle,
Be sure to get any permits that you might need according to your local situation. My dance company does not do charity events here that we put on ourselves because of all the red tape, but we DO perform at charity events sponsored by others. Last year, it was Mentors for Kids, which is an organization that sets up mentoring situations for children who are too poor to afford tutors and other mentors, but need help.
This year, we have decided to "adopt a charity", and will make a specific charity "our" charity for as long as they want to work with us. We have a specific women/children charity in mind that assists battered families. We have a busy Fall season and will get in touch with them as soon as our season is over. (Is everyone else super busy in the Fall, or is it just a local or perhaps even specific to our company???)
Regards,
A'isha

I dance on a lot of charity events : from homeless people to orphanages in the world : I find it important to donate my time for many causes.

I've not organized my own charity event but I have donated my performance to several. Primarily to non-profit social service agencies that focus on emergency services - food, shelter, crisis intervention...

Likewise, I have contributed my talent to already established fund raisers...I am proud to say that my hips raised over $3000 for Katrina Victims...I did a Tsunami costume auction that raised $1500 and the list goes on...you GO girl!!!

Yes, danced at a Belly Dance a thon for Leukemia society years
ago. It was lots of fun and well attended! The audience (many women
including Arabic women got up and danced with us)

The dance floor was covered in dollar bills and we were delighted
for the charity.

I would dance in a charity event in a heartbeat.

Good luck!
