Dear Jen,
Let me think.... we could do that one initiation rite where they lay a bed of coals on the ground and then saunter over the top of them without getting burned. We could fuse it with a few "belly dance movements" as we walk over them. We could use ouds and qanouns and daraboukas to play "Home on the Range".......... We could call it "Barbecue Bellydance"!!
Regards,
A'isha

But then you'll ge the barbecue experts saying it has nothing to do with barbecue because there is no burning involved. The burned meat smell is an essential part of barbecue essence

Dear Moon,
Well, I guess we COULD go ahead and burn our feet for that "authentic" aroma!! And, the actual sensation of ourselves burning will also lead us to ever greater ability in fantastic movement as well, I suspect, until everyone is so taken with Barbecue Bellydance that they lose touch completely with any other kind!! Then we could go into the sauce business and make a fortune!!
We could write fabulous articles about the dance form and have huge arguments on forums:

"B-B-Q Sauce, Prop or Costume???"

"If Your Coals are Lukewarm, is it Authentic B-B-Q Bellydance?"

"Rubs and Marinades: An advanced Workshop for the Barbecue Bellydancer"

"My Isis Wings Went up in Flames- The down Side of Fiery Fusion", a story of woe by B-B-Q Belly Dancer Cajun Habibah

oh oh... my husband is bbq KING.... would he see this as a threat to his "KINGdom" if I borrowed the sauce for my costume? (btw.. I am voting for costume... as you cannot really do anything WITH it.... besides, would make the tips stick better!)

oohhh NO ... KEEP YOUR title... I was just trying to make a joke regarding the "males only" thread....slash realm of the BBQ!!!!!
( I mean... could we consider that MAYBE.. BBQ brings to mind... more of a say "male" essence???? )

Dear Belly_dancer,
Definitely, but we women can be just as good at it as men if we keep in mind that we must BBQ with male essence!! I occasionally practice trying to drink beer out of a bottle without getting my lip stuck in it from the suction. I am also trying to be more open minded about the "5 second rule", where if you drop food on the ground and you can pick it up before 5 seconds, its still okay to throw it on the BBQ!! This absolutely HAS to be a male essence concept. No woman I know would dream of eating food once it hits the dirt; mostly not even chocolate!!
Regards,
A'isha

OMG this is brilliant! People keep fusing other DANCES with bellydance, well, that's just sooo 2007. Now, fusing completely different genres with bellydance... suddenly it makes so much more sense....
My own addition is "Bellyboarding" which is bellydance and snowboarding. It's kinda wrong for the season though. Bbq bellydance is going to be the summer thing, I just know it!

Dear Gisela,
It sounds wondrous!!!! Maybe it would need a special board design and the dancer would have to wear an Ipod and some special footwear!! I think it needs to be a Winter Olympics event and you could be the only judge until others learned to be proficient. When the Gold Medal winners turn Pro, they could do it for entertainment, but not until they have proved themselves!! It would be a first in the world of Belly dance. You are a genius for developing this fantastic fusion form!

A'isha,
