Andrea et al --

I'm curious about the drawings of dancers playing "crotales" or the little stick things -- are these just placed in the hands like reverse chopsticks? I've experimented with a couple of different sizes and woods, and I'm not finding a sound that would carry, even remotely. Were these wrapped in metal somehow? Do you know anything about these?

Spoons are used in Simsimiyya, the folklore of Suez Canal towns. For videoclips see Oriental Dance - Folkloric Dance By Mohamed El Hosseny
