I got this ad sent to me by email the other day, and usually I delete that kind of stuff, but this one intrigued me. It was an ad for bellydance trips to Turkey that were all inclusive dance classes, room, and board in a small Turkish village at a pretty reasonable price. Their website is Welcome to Turkish Bellydance World ~ Your all-in-one bellydance solution in Turkey!
I didn't see anything that looked fake or scammy, but I want more information. Has anyone done this with this company before? Was it what you were expecting? Are they reputable? Has anyone had experience with other companies for a similar type of trip (it doesn't necessarily have to be Turkey) that you would like to recommend? Any information would be helpful. Thanks!

I got this mail too, and I checked the page, but it doesn't seem particularly thrilling to me. I think the belly dance is not high level, but then again maybe I'm wrong.

Telling by the photos, the teacher is Sema Yildiz. She is quite popular for Turkish style and especially Roman Havasi. Personally, I haven't studied with her, but I've talked to some people who did and there are mixed reviews. As I understand, she is more of a so called "follow-the-bouncing-butt" kind of teacher, so it's a question of how much you can get out of that. Also, she is willing to break it down, but some people felt it wasn't understandable enogh.
Maybe you should ask the organizers about who the teachers are and then try to get opinions from people who studied with them (or at least google them out). |
