Hi there!
I posted this thread on bhuz as well, but thought I'd try a different pool of dancers here! Has anyone out there got any feedback about the workshop sizes from last years' Raqs Britannia festival? I'm going to my first one this June, and I'm seriously considering signing up for a Suhaila and a Fahtiem workshop, but don't want to be crammed in a room with 50 other students. Do the organizers limit the sign-ups or is it a 100 student type of deal? This will be my first Suhaila workshop, but that's a whole different thread Thanks!

I haven't been to Raqs Britannia but on the individual workshop pages last year it said how many spaces there were in each class - I note it doesn't have that information this year. As far as I remember, the workshop places varied from 40 places up to 100 places. I would expect Suhaila's classes to be immensely popular and so be very large. A lot of people booked for last year's International Belly Dance Congress in Bognor Regis, solely to take classes with Suhaila, and they were very disappointed when she was a no-show.

Thanks, Suheir!
I will keep my eyes peeled for any notes on the BDSS website, but I really hope the class sizes are reasonable

I went last year and it was a concern. I'll be honest some classes were small some were very busy but in those cases most of the teachers were good at rotating lines...not everyone. I'm sure if you got stuck at the back no one would mind if you put up your hand and asked to rotate.
I think I'd just be conscious of what classes you take for example last year I took backbends with Rachel Brice which had a smaller number of participents. Now if you've never done yoga before, with all the good will in the world there is no way she can be watching everyone to make adjustments, if you have some previous experience you're likely to get more out of it IMHO. Please don't be put off. I had a good time last year AND I enjoyed the Congress. And while we're about it what's with those ladies who come to class dressed in full tribal gear? |

I am definitely going to enjoy the festival, so I'll just have to have faith that all will be well and I won't get swallowed into a sea of rampant belly dancers!

Oh well said...how I suffered from towering headresses let alone multi-skirt wearing, the biggest knickers in the world tribal girls at Fantasia one year. Workshops like classes are not about perfromance gear, they are about hard work in the appropriate sensible work-out gear! |

I enjoyed some of the bigger workshops at Bognor as they did them in big rooms with stages - you could see what was going on and had space to move. OK you don't get much attention, but at least you get in... and much less frustrating than smaller workhops that have too many people in.
