Hi all,
This morning I was all set to go down to the Cities and perform at Lili's. I have been looking forward to this for a long time. Regardless of how everyone here feels regarding the burl/belly debate, I was shocked to find the show director's email in my inbox, informing me that the city had canceled the show. The city told the venue where they perform that if the show was allowed to go on, the city would shut down the place and they would have a hefty fine. Nobody knows why this is happening and even the performers did not find out until this morning. I dearly, dearly hope it isn't some type of censorship. What kind of world would we live in when burlesque shows are canceled and tawdry strip joints are allowed to remain in business? Sorry, but I really wanted to vent. This is unfair for the city to do and I just don't understand it. It's also a kind of sucker punch for me, since I was all ready and I've been waiting for so long. Any thoughts?

That is a shame Brea. Obviously, the city had the wrong idea about the performance. It is amazing what kind of control a city has over events and such. I can go on and on about it. Maybe you could suggest the event being scheduled in a different city
Good luck and keep practicing your act, because it might not be over with yet.![]() |

I am sorry this happened Brea but you don't know why the city canceled the event. There are all sorts of reasons cities cancel things. The reasons range from people protesting, to parking issues, to venues not being liscenced for a particular type of event. So perhaps the event can be rescheduled elsewhere.

Hi guys,
I am hoping it had something to do with fire codes or the like. We will have to wait and see. The show had been going on during weekends at this particular venue consistently, so it is hard to say.
