![]() And *more* lovely voice-over, especially for Aniseteph! I can't believe this isn't a joke... The videos won't embed so you'll have to double-click to watch them on YouTube... Last edited by Suheir; 07-02-2008 at 06:56 PM. |

These wouldn't be the same aliens that caused the horrible travesty that was the most recent Indiana Jones flick, would they?! Curse you, Spielberg/Lucas, for screwing with Star Wars and Indy and robbing my childhood.
Ahem. So what do we do from here? We all know better, but you know even textbooks don't. My ballet instructor recently informed me that not only did her TEXTBOOK for World Cultures class claim the ancient mystical female origins of the dance, but that the teacher actually had a female assistant from somewhere or other come to class and affirm this! In the face of all these websites, textbooks, 'authorities'...how do we fight against the raging seas of inaccuracy all around us? Besides that, what to do about students who are sorely disappointed that this dance didn't arise out of a magic box?

I viewed that clip with an open mind and was going to take a charitable approach, but the awkwardness combined with the sultry stares at the camera made me want to barf.
I get so freaking sick of that bullshit in bellydance sometimes, and even think that I don't want to associate myself with so much farcical self-glorification to the point that I almost want to distance myself from the dance. I have no respect for dancers who use bellydance as their 15 minutes of fame to writhe around gracelessly thinking about how hot they are, neither doing accurate movements, nor being good entertainers. In addition, I have danced and taught hiphop fusion so I watched the 'bellydance allstars' hiphop fusion clip. I don't know what kind of hiphop they have learned but generally the goal is NOT to look like one of the pieces of meat in trashy hiphop music videos. As a final point, I would NEVER dance to a track that included the lines 'i'll do whatever you like' and 'if you like my body do you want to ride it like a harley once or twice around the block'. I am sick of having my reputation ruined by association. End of rant.
