Don't forget also that in Western societies we have been 'taught' that back pain is about disease/disability, and that we need to seek 'treatment' for back pain especially. The prevalence of back pain is the same wherever we go in the world - but the way it impacts on our lives is so much more in Western societies. When you and I get back pain we're exhorted to have it 'fixed' and assume that having pain is abnormal - but actually having aches and pains is absolutely normal, not inevitably a sign of damage or pathology, and it's well recognised in many less developed countries that having back pain doesn't mean we need to constrain our movements at all. BTW the relationship between strong core muscles and low back pain has been found not to be supported by scientific evidence...I blogged about it recently, and this is the article I was using as the basis for the posts.

And with the usual cynicism that pervades my thoughts when it comes to the structure of society and it's mentors, the back problems and pain that people experience possibly as a direct result of how we are used by industry, used and thrown away when it is expedient to do so.

( Sorry, I get the grrrrr, factor when I perceive injustices to mankind )

But on the subject of back pain, one thing I have discovered, is the use of pure water as a fluid to drink, we are brought up on sugary soda drinks, cordials, teas, beers wines and spirits, we drink them more than anything else, maybe it is the success of media advertising, or a distrust of water leading to dislike that makes us avoid the stuff, but the drinking of pure water when thirsty, ( although thirsty is an indication of dehydration, in reality, ideally we should not get that far), we do little of. Pure water hydrates the body, it is necessary for the correct function of our selves, and on the subject of back pain, the hydration of the little bouncy buffer things between the vertebrae. Inadequate hydration can lead to the 'buffers' herniating, what I basically had, I suspect constant and pervasive dehydration was a contributing factor.

My problem is, I still don't like water, and drink anything other, but the dance classes and my daily practice make me drink the stuff, as it is the only thing which seems to quench with exercise.
