Hi, I'm surprised to see our school featured in an article on this site!!! We were interviewed by the Cleveland Plain dealer last month and we all rushed out to grab our copies of the paper. Lo and behold, the story was picked up by USAToday. That's me in the red dress!
I'm glad how well the article turned out, there were no misquotes or paraphasing. David Briggs was thoughtful and respectful as he approached us. His questions were well prepared. Even during the interview,I felt he wanted to understand the dance within a spiritual context and not play up the hoochie-coochie angle. We had the opportunity to put our words into action by performing two dances for him-one including zills. He was blown away by the positive, emotional energy. In my very biased opinion, I think the article shed a positive light on our dance. Yasmine

Hello Everyone,
Congraulations on USA Today picking up the story. I am so glad to hear David Briggs was kind to you. I'm Rachel Kraus, the Assist. Professor at Ball State University that he mentioned in the article. When I talked to him, he was very pleasant. When he approached me about my research and wanting to write this article, I was a little unsure how this would work out. I'm glad that people appear pleased. |
