Default Princess Banu

We have the opportunity to get an interview with her (famous/infamous Turkish star of the 70's and 80's). As always I like to open the door to reader questions. If you have something you are curious about post it here and I'll try to work it in!

Yesssssssssssss !!!
What was the inviroments at the time she was dancing at Turkey?
Restaurants? Night clubs? Stage?

As we see in photos her "costumes" was daring.
These costumes was only for photo shots or she actually danced "in" them, and if she was dancing how was people reacting to this?

I've heard that she was one of the first feminists in Turkey, is this real?

What was the most extreme reaction she had from a fan?

What was the biggest tip for that era?
(i'm asking this cause at same time in Greece a dancer got 12.000 $ = 9.000 euro in tips for a night show)

Did the 3 dancers of that time Princes Banu, Selma Yildiz and Nesrin TopKapi had relations? worked together? were friends?

kisses
Maria Aya

Great!!!

My questions are
1.about her name? What is it and how do you spell it.
2. Has she really danced with pasties?
3. What was it like to be a bellydancer?
4. Love to know her background a little.

Tks soo much Salome!

What does she think of the direction belly dance has taken in the last thirty years? What changes has she seen in style, costuming, presentation, and what does she think of them?

Did she ever have to stand up to people who wanted to choreograph her work? What did her family think of her being a bellydancer?
What made her choose bellydance?
When did she stop, and why?

Maria Aya
She seems to using be a very risque costume here

here's the link: YouTube - Prenses Banu

two more videos of the princess:
YouTube - Princess Banu Oryantal Belly Dance
YouTube - Prenses Banu Oryantal

my questions are:
1. What styles of turkish dance did you specialize in? Turkish oriental? Rom? Any folkloric dances?
2. Do you still perform today?
3. What inspired you to begin dancing?

Wow, quite a coup, Salome! Congrats!

I've come to suspect the visiting Turkish dancers from the late 1950s on had a big impact on what we've come to call Amcab/American Oriental style.

I'd like to know how Princess Banu came to have that name, and what her real one is. Also, how she trained and got into professional belly dancing, where and when she toured in the United States and whether she ever showed any aspiring American dancers some moves.

I have to agree with that. I sometimes watch old videos of dancers like P. Banu and think I am seeing old style AmCab (though if one of my dancers ever did a floor backbend with her knees facing the audience, I'd have something to say about it.).

Have to admit, I liked the risque snake bra. Bet it was uncomfortable as heck, though.

Yes I'd like to know what she thinks of the current scene. Dancers in Turkey and Egypt:her opinion

And does she teach? ( if that's a silly question ignore it..I know the dancer only through her glamorous pictures)
