Artemis sits on a statue of Buddha in a reclining pose, finding inspiration in "Lord Shiva". That is definitely not Lord Shiva. It's the Buddha. Someone didn't do their research well enough! I'm not a Buddhist but most of my mother's side of the family is and being raised in a mostly Buddhist country, I find her sitting on one incredibly offensive in more than one way. Most Thais would have a heart attack if they see that picture. ![]() Last edited by maria_harlequin; 06-05-2009 at 04:54 PM.. |

Thanks Maria,
It would be wonderful if you added that info in the comments section below the article. I really do need help with this sort of thing. This is a big reason we added the comments section. If the community doesn't start using the comments section more it may not be worth the extra work (and it is alot of work!) to use the tempermental software that it requires. I'd really appreciate it! Lynette |

I actually saw several tourists arrested briefly in Autthaya (sp) back in the early 90s. They had been told not to desecrate the statues by sitting climbing on them, there are also signs around the place, but they did it anyway. I was so shocked that people would just ignore warnings and even if there were no warnings how dare they think they can just trample other folks religions/beliefs.
![]() Several of us had actually gone up to these ignoramuses and told them to get down, they just laughed ![]() I actually felt a perverse sense of justice when they were arrested, and kind of sad when they were released without some sort of fine or a night in jail LOL! The Buddha protects my front entrance of my home, and Kwan Yin welcomes all who enter across the threshold. I am not Buddhist, but my husband's family is. I am eclectic and take what is right and good from various belief systems. I love the gentle vibes that Buddha and Kwan Yin bring to our home and lives. ~Mosaic |

At the head of the camera-flashing pack was a doctor/nurse couple who didn't even look around to see if any of the children were hurt. I was aghast. [I realize that doctors/nurses from the US can't just practice random medicine, but geez -- it's not like they couldn't help by just looking a few kids over.] |
