I'm jealous of you all - the most prominent 'achievements' by members of my family have had such negative consequences for a lot of people, and just been such an embarrassment, I don't dare post them here. Fortunately I can say the rest of my family is made up of decent hardworking folks. As for me, my only claim to fame is to have played Juliet in high school. And my pancakes, which is the only really tasty thing I can make.

Zurah I think that's far more important than being famous.
And I'd love to taste one of your pancakes

Default Claim to fame...top of my head

1) My Dad dated Linda McCartney in high school. Well, she was Linda Eastman. They both grew up in a wealthy neighborhood, Scarsdale, NY, where they went to the same high school.

2) I am first cousin-once removed to Alan Alda. No, I have never met him. No, I can't describe how. Every time I asked my grandmother, she would outline it for me (she thought it was second-cousin, but some research revealed it was not), and I never wrote it down, and she has since passed away.

3) Doesn't seem a big deal now, but it felt big when I was younger: I was in the Seattle Times nearly once a year for most of my childhood: regional/city spelling bees, awards, school and district fairs, etc. I was student of the month every year of my school career until high school, and student of the year of my elementary school (which you could only get in the 6th grade, so it was a "once in a lifetime" achievement).

4) Related, I won every school spelling bee from 4th-7th grade (there were no 3rd or 8th grade, so...), and only went as far as state championships, where I was usually in the top 5 before being eliminated. I was in the top 4 of the state-wide spelling bee sponsored by the Seattle Times. My favorite/least favorite year was when my older brother (one grade above me) and I were in the top 3 of our schoool bee and I beat him out. I was so happy/sad! To this day I still love spelling and grammar! Language is incredibly interesting!

5) I am on the third tier of the tribal tree. It goes Carolena-Paulette-Me. I feel pretty happy and honored to have that tree as my dance "lineage". Having Paulette as my Momma is surely a claim to fame, but more a blessing beyond words.

6) I was NEARLY a famous singer. LOL I was chosen to sing in a group of 5 children on a Christmas album--a new song that was previously not released. I STILL remember this song, as it will be stuck in my head all my life from all the rehearsals. It never got recorded, sad to say. I should write it down someplace...

7) I was Queen for a Day of Disneyland when I was 7. I pulled the sword from the stone, and was awarded the honor by Merlin himself. All day long people would point and say "Look! She's the Queen of Disneyland!" I felt so famous! I kindly gave up the honor to another child the very next day...

There are lots of other little claims to fame, like leads in school plays and the like. But those are just "famous in my own mind" type things. And I just know more significant things have happened that I am totally blanking on! LOL I love reading these anecdotes about other people, so everyone write your meaningful moments in your life!

Hello Tribal Dancer !!

Nice to read your post ! WOW !! You've achieved lots havn't you !! (makes me think 'ouch' when I think of my terrible spelling in these posts. I think I got my bad spelling from my late Dad.

I was a singer once. I just luuuuuvvv singing. I was in Cairo, and this Egyptian lady who was (and is still) a very good friend of mine, heard me once. She knew the 'beverage and entertainment manager' (something like that anyway)....at the Semi Ramis Inter Continental in Cairo and put me in touch with him. So once upon a time I did a few nights there. Which was fine, untill they tried to make me wear a wig !!????????? and also untill some of the rich oil arabs started insisting that they 'spend' the night with me or they would take their business somewhere else !!....and my manager made it quite clear that he prefferred to have thier money !!! aaahhhh. I was out of there as quick as my legs could carry me!!
