Default Paging Cyprus, Greek, Macedonian and Albanian dancers!

Hi all!
My husband and I are going to be traveling to Cyprus, Greece and possibly Macedonia and/or Albania for 4 weeks from Sep 19th till Oct 14th. We are going to start with Cyprus (landing in Larnaca) for 2 days, visiting my family, then Athens (3-4 days), then driving around Greece with probable hops to Macedonia and/or Albania towards the end of the trip. Then back home from Thessaloniki.

I was wondering if local dancers could give me some recommendations regarding:
- belly dance events, of course
- Tsifteteli instructors
- good Rebetiko music places (very important, I have a Rebetiko course this year so I must prepare myself!)
- Macedonian and Albanian Roma music and dance events/venues/instructors
- awesome places to eat
- tourist traps to avoid
- any other suggestions are welcome too, including getting together for coffee

Thanks in advance.
Sophie

Unfortunately for Greece we are still having vacations, so no shows yet, or classes, what you can find is privite classes

- Tsifteteli instructors
The best thing to do is to go out at bouzoukia places and watch the people dancing, you can also take privite lessons from any greek teacher about the base and the history of the dance, you can read before this Chryssanthi's Sahar article in Oriental Dancer about Greek Chifteteli, its a treasure!

- good Rebetiko music places (very important, I have a Rebetiko course this year so I must prepare myself!)
Awwww still most places are close around usual open middle of October.
- Macedonian and Albanian Roma music and dance events/venues/instructors
Dont know nothing about this

- awesome places to eat
Depends how much you want to spend, we have great places in Athens!!

- tourist traps to avoid
Be careful with the taxis, relax and enjoy it !!!

- any other suggestions are welcome too, including getting together for coffee
I'm in for the coffee thing !!! come from the school or we can go out !!
send me pm to give you mobile phone etc.

Thanks in advance.

Dear Maria Aya,
thanks for all the answers, they prompted even more questions

I read Chryssanthi's article, it really cleared up a lot of things!

Could you recommend a couple of particular places?

Regarding restaurants, every time we travel we try to find places where the locals dine on a regular basis. We do sometimes splurge on fancier restaurants, but they too require local advise. So, my point is we'll consider any recommendations as long as the food is good

Ha-ha, the taxis here are also not for the faint of heart )) But I think we'll use the underground. i'm a big fan of underground. We don't have one in Israel so every time we arrive somewhere with an underground I party

I pmed you regarding getting together.
Thanks again,
Sophie
