Dear Gang,
Can anyone tell me where things go when you scan them into your computer from your printer? I need to do this process and frankly, I am bewildered. Regards, A'isha |

Also, if you know the name of the file, you can usually do a search and find it that way. Do you know what operating system you are using? XP, Vista?

Dear Samira, Thanks for your help! I got a Vista not long ago when my computer died. I wanted an XP but there was no choice. I am still trying to learn it, but I never had good luck with scanning in XP and I admit to being rather intimidate by Vista. It is inside a Hewlett Packard that has been reworked because something fried on some part of it that made it stop working. ( Very helpful I'm sure. I sound like the stereotype woman taking her car to the garage and saying, "My car is making this noise like, "SCRRRRFFF" when I turn right.") I am going to try to follow down what you said here and see if I can make it do what I want. I want to scan stuff and put it in my photos file because I get a better picture when I print from there for some reason. REgards, A'isha |

Dear Aisha, most scanning programs will put the scans into a folder that might be called "my scan" usually it is insid "my picture"Which is located insid "my documents" folder.
My Mocuments/My Pictures/My Scan Or rescan and specify the folder that the image should go to as Samira described above. If you have any other questions just post them. Regards~Mahmoud

Dear Samira and Mahmoud,
YES!!! I successfully scanned a photo of Mae West in belly dance garb during her burlesque days for my history of belly dance lecture that I am giving on Saturday!! I was thrilled. Samira, I looked for the "Save to" prompt ypu mentioned, on the printer. ( I had been looking for it on my computer screen before, like a dummy!!) My printer gave me about 6 choices of places to put the scan and the only one I recognized was Word, which, as Mahmoud said is where my documents and my photos are kept. I was too happy and now I can easily finish my project!! Thanks to both of you. Regards, A'isha |

Dear Samira and Adiemus,
Thanks!! For my next techno-miracle, I intend to try to figure out how to make separate tracks with my Acid program.... Although that might be really hard, so maybe I will just try to figure out how to do something else. At least I have now successfully recorded about 200 of my music tapes onto CD. Live and learn. Regards, A'isha |

Dear Mahmoud, I have invested in a wonderful system called Acid Music Studio. It is made by Sony. I got my first one for just $35, but then I had to get a new computer and the Vista compatible one was of course way more expensive, $80. I LOVE the system as far as the great quality it reproduces. I have a whole bunch of older Arab music tapes from the 70s-90s that I have gotten from various friends who gave me their music when they returned to their native countries. I have been so afraid that they would disintegrate, and then one of my daughter's friends helped me to put the system in my computer and showed me the basics, of which I wrote down every step in as language I can speak! If only I had more knowledge about it.... I am happy just to be able to save the music though, so I don't complain too much. I do not know the language that people use to discuss compute stuff so the directions are not very understandable. I think Audacity is a good program, too. I once used it before I got the new Acid program, to put music for a performance on CD and it works really well. Regards, A'isha |
