Dear Dipali,
Thank you for your continued support!! I am pretty sure all June Bugs are males just as all Ladybugs are females. It is the way of bugs. I was wondering on my travels this A.M. if bugs have circulatory systems, like a heart, veins and arteries, etc, like mammals do...??? My entomylogical knowledge is limited to knowing if I see a bug, I want it GONE, except for Baby Box Elder bugs which are too cute for words and Praying Mantises which are so very beautiful they are not really bugs, I think.
Regards,
A'isha

Have you ever seen a Green Lacewings? It is a personal favorite of mine in the insect kingdom.

Dear Shanazel
YES!!! We have them here also and they are very much like little fairies! They are out at this time of year, too. Add them to my list of loveble bugs. I don't even care if they land on me!
Regards,
A'isha

One of the best parts of living in the American south is the fireflies. Here is a little video, in case you've never seen them.

My thing is spiders. I dont mind rats, snakes, even Catholic nuns. Spiders. Nope. Not this girl.

Now imagine thousands of those little lights. Its very very cool.

Yes, they are great, at least you can see them coming, not like a big hawk moth as it crashes into your head, those things like aircraft should have navigation lights. In fact we had a dragon fly once, it had a six inch long body and the noise from it's wings as it circled around the kitchen light was awesome, that was until the usually can't be bothered cat spoiled it's fun.

Oh Khanjar, you've made me giggle out loud twice on this thread - loving the image of you swatting bugs a-la-Wimbledon, and the above post too!

Aisha, never heard of baby box bug things, but google provided me with all I need to know - HOW are those evil looking things 'cute'?! Is it like how bats are cute...? I like bats...

Default Baby Boxelder bugs

Dear Eshta,
When the babies are just new, they look like little red dots with legs. They slowly turn into grown-ups but when they are just new they are adorable! Really!

A'isha

Bats are great, especially the little pipistrelle we have here, like a mouse on wings, they are never daft enough to crash into one's head, but avoid all objects a couple of feet before they hit. I am aware that the pipistrelle might consume some 3000 insects per night, but it is no match for the hawk moth, they are just too big.

I had a pipistrelle once, prey rescued from the cat, it was awesome, what a fantastic little creature, an hour of rest away from the cat and it was on the wing again and free.

We have lots of fireflies up here too. Pretty as long as you don't get too close! They're pretty scary in daylight.

We called them lightening bugs in Arkansas. Other cool bugs: cicadas, hummingbird moths, luna moths, and those flying grasshoppers that have startled me more than once on the range because they make a sound that initially sounds like the buzzing of a rattlesnake. The only insect that just totally grosses me out is (ugh, even the name is gross) an earwig. Ooo, yuck, icky poo, try to get both feet off the ground at once. I'm also not too keen on ticks or anything else that views me as a potential meal.
