Well,fire ants, maybe, but the local council pest control said they were pharoah ants, I just know they were carnivorous and waking up in the morning with itching ant bites was not nice, they were everywhere.

The may bugs were so bad that in may we had to light the living room fire to stop them coming down the chimney. One particular day I ended up playing tennis with them, with one of those electric fly swatter tennis bats, they were so big they went down in flames. I am not usually that nasty with insects, more often than not, I encourage them to leave the house, net them and chuck them outside.

Though sources say the may bug does not bite, experience is they do, when trying to extract them from long hair which they have flown into. Apparently, the may bug is a member of the scarab family and yes I would tend to agree, the adult can get as big as an inch and a half in length.

An inch and a half, is small potatoes to what the rest of you might have in other parts of the world, but it's pretty big for Britain.

Spiders, I used to not like them, there was something about them I did not like, but now, we sort of get on, they keep away from me, I will leave them alone and there is a big one somewhere in my bedroom, I often see it stomping across my room, it's about two and a half inches across, and jumps which is unnerving as to where it lands.

Dear Shanazel,
When I first met Sedonia Sipes, she was doing a thesis, might have been her doctorate, on ancient insects. I can't remember the exact element of prehistoric bugginess she was researching.
Regards,
A'isha

Paleoentymologists and paleobotanists are not like the rest of us. A friend of mine was a whizz at paleobotany of the Triassic era but could barely recognize a modern daisy. If it wasn' dead and entombed in stone, she wasn't interested. Speaking of the Triassic, everytime I hear the word, I imagine this dinosaur with three tails...

Don't know, though there might be a similarity;

Cockchafer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Although the website below says they are the same critter;

June Beetle, May Beetle, Damage and Control of White Grubs

Think they are all of the scarab family, along with dung beetles

I have some exciting bug stories!!

The Hawaiian cane spider is as big as your hand, you can see each individual eye...as they LEAP at you without fear! They are wolf spiders, and they JUMP! Yiyiyi! Usually I like spiders, but...

My ex husband once woke up to a horrible pain and found a huge foot long brown centipede under his PILLOW!! He smashed it after chasing it to the bathroom.

Once a giant cockroach flew onto my face through the car window.

None are as funny as the one with the knife though!

Dear Brea,
And now you have just given me three more good reasons never to live in the tropics!!! Give me scorpions, rattlesnakes and gila monsters any day!!

A'isha - and this is my great difficulty, loving the tropics dearly and hating their giant insects.
