Dear Khanjar, This new version that I have (101) also lets you know what cookies are hanging out in your computer and can get rid of them for you. Now, while I am not really sure what exactly a cookie is ( I often feel like a little kid who is just hearing her first rumors about how sex works when I speak of computers....) I am pretty sure they are not too good. I honestly have not has any problems that I know of except for setting the virus scan schedule more than once. Regards, A'isha |

A cookie is something nice to eat, but in computer parlance, it is a a small text file sent to a web user's computer by a website. A cookie can be used to identify that user to the website on their next visit. Common uses include remembering login data, user preferences, and providing favorites lists. This site sets cookies, as does any other website you use regularly. In AVG 8.0, if it shows you what cookies you have, you should be able to see this site in there. Also, wherever you go on the web, cookies are set for a future visit, if you don't go to that place again, then you do not need the cookie, so getting shot is an option.

Dear Khanjar,
Yes, it is you who are up late. In my part of the universe, it is 5:45 PM or close to it. I was playing on the computer while my grandson is zonked out on the couch, but I am about to go down and make us some dinner, so he will have to wake up soon. He arrived by plane this afternoon and was exhausted from staying up too late last night. If I don't wake him up soon, we can expect a repeat performance of that! Anyway, thanks for the cookie info.... I am still not sure if I want to keep them or should I erase them or whatever?? What do you do with them? They seem like a way for websites to keep track of their visitor traffic or something, then??? Regards, A'isha |

Cookies, me, I always delete, I use a programme called CCleaner to wipe out everything after a session on the net. Just me I suppose, and not being totally au fait with net works, I just choose to get rid of things hanging about on my computer. Getting rid of cookies is supposed to slow website connection, but I have never had any problems. This site has a cookie from your computer, so knows you when you try to enter.
CCleaner - Home I used to use this program on my old win 98 machine, which had only 128 mb of memory and a 5 gb hard drive, I ran it when the computer slowed, it worked well, so I continue with my new vista machine, I have only 1gb of memory on this, which is the absolute minimum for vista. Cleaning via CCleaner does help, I can see that. Yes, I am up late, but I like the night, it is 02:05 here.
