OK, so if you've installed Firefox 3 can you let us know whether it's worth it? and whether it's difficult to install - I'm also not very good at coping with computer frustration, it's a bit like road rage, I have computer freakout...

Dear Khanjar,
Thanks for the info. I very much appreciate you taking the time. Chainmail, hunh? I have a small chunk of it made out of copper, but I need to solder it all because it comes apart. I think it is beautiful!! It must be like me with beading. I can do it for hours and not get bored at all. Regards, A'isha |

A'isha, The piclenz demo video is the problem not your computer, it acts a bit choppy in parts of the demo. You can download it safely. All my computer knowledge is self taught trial and error, over the last 15 years, starting with MS's first platform 3, then win 95, 98, xp now vista. I was terrified of the computer and its working to start with, I was sure somehow I would blow it up or something, but the learning curve is just sheer confidence and as Khanjar suggested, when a problem arises serach the web for a solution there is one out there somewhere, if the problem is too daunting then your techies will solve it for you. Just tell yourself it is a machine, and not some monster who is out to get you LOL, There is not much I can't do these days, and I have never had any IT instruction, I can even do simple programming, I intend to ramp up the programming side of things, but it is finding the time to sit and play around. You are never too old to learn either. I set my 71 year old aunt up a couple of years ago, and although she keeps it simple like email, web surfing and stuff like that, she is no longer terrrified that if she clicks on something strange and dire things will happen. She was so pleased with herself when she taught herself to save email stationary with some email instructions from me I think you have far more knowledge than my aunt, so you'll be fine. I tried to teach my Mother who was 76 at the time, but she proved to be totally impatient, so she wasn't adventurous enough, she won't even have a mobile phone or fax phone. My aunt Mum's sister loves her mobile phone and txt messages everyone frequently. I tried to get my Mum to go to basic computer skills workshop for seniors, but she just dug her stubborn heels in LOL! Never mind you can't win them all. A'sha you are more than 1/2 way there it is just confidence now.~Mosaic |

This is what usually happens. Tony can hook into my computer from his house so he can help me when necessary! ( I got it worked on about a month ago, so I had better find out if he is still in there, hunh?) Quote:
Thank you and I will keep trying. tomorrow I will download the Piclens program and hopefully if things get weird you and Khanjar will be willing to give advice?? Regards, A'isha [/quote] Last edited by Aisha Azar; 06-20-2008 at 01:34 PM. |

I am no expert, but if I can help anyone I will, or at least direct someone to places they may find the help themselves.
I am on a few techie forums, as a beginner and in one case, a Luddite. I dislike these things, computers, but they are a necessary evil for our present age. I dislike them partly because they now are an excuse for various agencies to not be able to help you when you need it. How often have you sought information only to hear the all too familiar phrase, 'Can't help, the computers are down '? The other reason I dislike them is I am a mechanical person, I am familiar with cogs, gears, oil and grease. Mind I have thought to use a universal spanner on this machine more than once (hammer). But it is true, a computer is only a machine and there being a machine can be repaired. Blowing them up, well I have not seen that, but I have seen them burn, laptops and the notorious mains supply in socket. To prevent that, as soon as you start getting a bad connection when charging the laptop battery get it to the techies to repair the socket connection. To avoid it altogether, make sure there is no tension on the mains power in cable. That's about it as far as I know that can go wrong big time, is power supplies but power supplies are not anything to do with normal computing, so no worries there. Everything Mosaic said is very true and as to older people and computers, google the so called 'silver surfers ', they are simply amazing, or see this link ; Silver surfers beat the young as Web wizards | Mail Online Not saying you are of the age, but it is an indication that age is not a bar to using computers. Copper chainmail, it is nice, I do like copper maille, but it is soft. Soldering, well with that stuff you can solder with lead solder as plumbers solder, or if you know how, silver solder, but this can be expensive and hard work. Either way, the copper colour will be marred with the silver or grey colour of the solder. I am just finishing a maille shirt made out of steel rings, some eight and a half thousand rings, but am now looking at BD related maille, and will use alluminium for that, so I can anodise the rings to whatever colour I want. Plan also to have a go at BD style jewellery using silver or niobium. My next project, is a saracen metal scale shirt, using metal scales in a fish scale type arrangement. I just like making things.

WOW! what an incredible hobby!! Got any pictures? thanks for your encouragement - I know it's possible to learn about computers, but it's a bit like changing tyres....if you can get away with hitching your skirt up and flashing a leg - then get a man to do it! (or at least someone who knows what they are doing!)
