You are doing them a favour by letting them know their envelope security leaves a bit to be desired. Being a mum and where your son came in the race doesn't come into it.

Also if your son got the money and then lost it, maybe the other guy found it? How come they gave him a check after he lost the envelope? Im really confused now.

I am sure it is-whenever my brother and I screw up (frequently) I can see my mother wanting to charge in and rescue/kill us.she's pretty good at butting out though
