Thanks to Suheir I discovered a website (then had to go and lie down) and read about the wonders of Belly Dance
I recently became a mother and I know from personal experiences the wonders the dance can achieve. I had an easy pregnancy and my son slipped out after only 4 hours of labour. I recovered remarkably quickly and was dancing in no time to the delight of my tiny audience Funny that 34 years ago , I had a 20 minute labour, sat up asked for my dinner, got back into a size 10 mini dress ( oh those days have long gone) that my husband picked out as a going home outfit and chased myself round ragged after a 2 years old while his brother did a lot of sleeping. ![]() All that without any idea of the healing properties of belly dance. And yes I do go with the idea that women in its' place of origin dance naturally to keep fit as well as have fun...dancing does keep you fit. But is any one else tired of this dance being used by some practitioners to say "I can cure you"? Keep it simple girls. When women discover something they enjoy, they feel good. One of students said to me..."I have begun to feel confident again"..that's good enough and if she had gone to Line Dancing or Yoga, she might have felt the same! |

![]() ![]() Oh dearie me, lizaj, I think that website and its owner are a prime example of many things that are not right in the belly dance scene! Another one who's jumped on the burlesque bandwagon after calling her own particular brand of sleaze "exotic dance" for years.Have a virtual aspirin, dear ![]() |

Despite my intensive belly dancing for at least 3 years before my pregnancy and during my pregnancy, I had to get a cesarean and that after 18 hours of pains. I thought I was going to die. But there was at least one thing that belly dance was good for: my daughter became a very talented dancer![]()

Neither of my babies "slipped out." Both labors had to be induced (one of them twice) and my son got pulled out with what his dad called "the salad spoons." Alas! What does it say about me as a dancer that I cannot pop babies out with the ease of a REAL belly dancer? (Imagine dramatic swoon, with one hand held to forehead.)
