Sultan- I hold ceilidhs, I sing Scottish and Irish folk music. I know lots of pipers and drummers...but my ceilidhs are a lot more rowdy than the other ones I've seen, trying to keep with the true bawdy Scottish tradition.
Moon- 's math sin basically means "hurrah!" or "very good"...oddly the pronunciation sounds a lot like "Smashing!" There's some theory that's where the English got that term from.

Sultan:
Well, I am kind of a loose cannon with the Scots in Minnesota because I don't follow the traditions as they are 'supposed' to be followed...in a reverent way. I hold them like the Scots did, with the guys flashing each other in their kilts and screaming the lyrics to horrible old bawdy songs. It's a blast, I think, but makes me eminiently unpopular...still, I tell them that accuracy is a historian's first duty, and why not have your Scottish party as accurate as it can be? ![]()

What was it that did it: the kilt flashing or the screaming?
![]() Honestly, if people want to celebrate Scotland, that's the way to do it.
