I was going to start a thread on astrology as that is one of my interests, but noticed this one was here already, so I shall add to it as a new member and perhaps other new members might find the interest to do so too.

I am Scorpio sun, Capricorn moon and Virgo rising/ascendant. oh, and Earth element

Of software for natal charts I do recommend the Timepassages software, for me, that has been the most detailed and in depth natal chart explanation yet, without bias.(35 A4 pages long)

Yes, it is software you have to buy, but the demo works for one reading, then you have to uninstall , re download and install for subsequent readings

No offence taken, though I do understand what you mean. Astrology is an ancient science, perhaps the oldest and original science, something which was taken as important until the modern age. I do believe there even still exists a Royal Astrologer to our present monarchy, whether they take much notice, that I do not know, but it exists.

Science as we know it today is based upon what can be demonstrated, as if everything in life, the world, the universe is as simple as that, I think not, I believe there is much more to us than what science would like us to believe, in fact I believe modern science is in it's infancy, it has a long way to go yet. It has either to explain or debunk phenomena and belief, something which many scientists are reluctant to do because they are unsure, they don't know nor can explain.

Maybe the ancient scientists had something, maybe what learned people had noted about people over hundreds, perhaps thousands of years there was a pattern, not forgetting people might not have been as fragmented as we are today, they noticed things in their communities, the people whom they conducted their daily lives around.

Maybe that pattern was what we know as natal charts, the position of the heavenly bodies at the time of our birth, birth being a big occasion, and the heavenly bodies, planets and stuff, the forces they exert. We know of certain forces, gravitational, centrifugal, electro magnetic etc, but do we know all the forces that exist, I think not. If the moon has a gravitational effect on this planet so as to affect the tides, humans, animals and plants, why not other heavenly bodies, their gravitational pull and whatever other force there may be that we have yet to discover.

Given that the moon affects humans, a full moon being particularly potent, what effect does it have on our development and in particular the development of a yet to be born child. Perhaps it is that conception at a certain time as to the position of the astral bodies, will yield a person of specific characteristics, an experiment perhaps, has it ever been explored.

I am interested in science, but I am also interested in other things, perhaps not what modern science would wish to call science, the sciences of the past, I understand there may very well be forces exerted upon us which modern science cannot prove yet, I keep an open mind, until I am in receipt of an explanation which satisfies me. I believe in natal charts for reasons explained above, the characteristics natural to a person. I understand many who say they are nothing like that which astrologer says they should be, but you have to remember, we are constantly being modified by the society in which we live. Remove the influence of society and what will a person become, perhaps their natural selves.

Though I believe in the science of astrology, I do not take any interest in the daily horoscopes, as they are too general, they mean largely nothing to the majority and I prefer to take life as it is presented.

My natal chart was supplied by an astrological psychologist, something which helped me put a finger on some issues, which had to that point eluded me completely. Now I have addressed those issues, my life has become more balanced.

Personally, I'm not a believer in astrology - it's fun, it can give people an excuse for their behaviour, it can be a conversation starter - but in terms of its ability to define me or my tendencies or influences on my future, nope. Good statistical analysis of supposed correlations show that there is no scientific support for the influence of astrology. But, it is fun! BTW I'm a gemini! do I talk a lot? yes, but I'm not two-faced...

Agree 100 %.

I believe in Astronomy and Astrophysics but Astrology no.In India people consult with their astrologer for every occasion, Birth-Marriage even going for job interview. I have many reasons why I dont believe in Astrology . But why do so many intelligent people believe in Astrology ?

Well its human nature to believe that they have some special knowledge which would allow them to control their own destiny by seeing what potentially lies ahead. They want to avert danger, take advantage of good opportunities, etc etc.

For others there is deep seeded concern in the back of their minds about who really controls their destiny because they don't really feel that they do.

And thats about it, why people believe in things that do not exist.

People also believe in - Fairies , Colourology , Demon ,Hell, and hilariously INTELLIGENT DESIGN (Although thats only the hardcore Christians from Trans Atlantic)

I think people really want to believe that life is not random. By believing in something 'bigger' than humans, the random events that hit people without warning can be re-interpreted if they can be seen as some Grand Design...it makes people feel less vulnerable. At the same time, it can become an excuse for not taking self responsibility for choices... Not all the time, not all people

Check out for yourself: imagine what the world and life would be like if there was no 'higher force' of any type. What meaning is there for what you and I do in life?
I prefer to think that my influence is here and now, and if I am remembered, it's for what I actually did during my life. How I respond to the events in my life will reflect my values, and hopefully what people see from my actions, they will remember.

Having said that - I feel good emotionally in wild places, somehow in touch with nature and if there is some 'higher power' I suppose that's where I feel I would come into contact with it.

Given that my interest in astrology is limited to natal charts and personalities, I use this data as a means of self improvement, in that I am aware of my negative traits and these I try to change, rid or lessen their effect. Everyone likes to read good things about themselves, but with the good things there are bad, these negativities people often brush over, preferring to wallow in the good things about themselves. I seek the negatives with a view to doing something about them, my understanding being that if I can change a personality trait by being aware, I can move away from the constraints of the star sign personality type. It is not nice being scorpio in some ways as I can be typical of the star sign.

I see astrology as a means of self improvement for example, my wish to pursue ME dance, believe me I have analysed why I seek this as there are some obstacles, but I am driven to overcome these obstacles, why, because pushing myself away from my norm, is self improvement and can only lead to new things. New obstacles and problems, but they are new, not the same old stuff I am both used to and bored of, new challenges.

It was with interest I perused Zorba's website, and I could see much in what he had written and the way he had written, only to look back through past posts on this thread and find he is also a scorpio, I understand.

My thoughts then lead onto wondering how many of us males that are driven to do ME dance despite the obstacles are scorpios, as is oft the case with us that we drive full steam ahead and damn the torpedoes
