I kind of liked the movies better, though it lack alot of stuff, but I am not a big fan of LotR realy so it was nice whit the abridged version in the movies. The setting is nice, but the books get a bit boring at times I think.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, Veneficia! I do recommend the Crown of Stars series - it's a really good series if you're into sci-fi/fantasy. Be warned, though, the books are the size of bricks, and get bigger as the series progresses!!!
In order, the books are: King's Dragon Prince of Dogs The Burning Stone Child of Flame The Gathering Storm In the Ruins and finally Crown of Stars [edit] As for Lord of the Rings, I love that trilogy. Never got into The Silmarillion or Unfinished Tales, though - works published posthumously and incomplete really don't do much for me... Last edited by gwinity; 02-20-2007 at 04:15 AM. |

I am very into SiFi and Fantasy. And thank you so mutch for the time you took in finding thoose links. I apriciate it.
![]() As for Lord of the Rings, I think I was a bit put of by the first section that reminds me to mutch aboute my own home town of Jevnaker, a smal comunity based around a glass factory. Now pepole are moving in from elsewere but it was a rather closed sosiety where everyone was related to half of the rest and keept track of obscure family relations. I mean it was still sort of considerd family whit my grate aunt`s husband`s sister and her husband. And my eight removed cousing Ulla. I am so very, very glad to be out of Jevnaker and anything that reminds me of the place make me go eek. ![]()

) Another fantasy series worth reading is Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin.BTW I think that Silmarillion is excellent - and well-worth reading for anyone interested in history of Middle Earth and especially for all the Elven fans. Stories are also in finalized form so it is not like "Unfinished tales". One interesting detail is that a story about Turin Turambar is adapted from the Finnish myth Kalevala and the tragic story of Kullervo (and also Elvish "high-language" Quenya is based on Finnish language) Tolkien was a big fan of ancient European mythology and you can recognize many influences from Scandinavian, German and British tales - all those original tales are of course also interesting reading although many of them are in verse form which make them little bit difficult reading... |

Yes, the cover art does leave a little to be desired, doesn't it?
(At least the Australian covers are better than the US ones) But despite that, it's a good read. If you read them one after the other, it's not so hard to keep track of the characters, but if you pick up one after a break from the series (like I did), then it gets a bit difficult. It's an intriguing world to lose oneself in.Quote:

For exsample Tolkin`s elves comes from the myths aboute the Sidhe, a type of fay. Beautiful tall and yet willowly humanoid creatures whit centuries of widsom and magickal powers from the Celtic myths.

Good Omens by my favorite guy, Neil Gaiman, and Terry Pratchett, author of the awesome Wee Free Men books.
Just finished the Three Musketeers again and moving on to the Monkey Sonatas by Orson Scott Card this afternoon.
