Default Downloading and listening to music.

Hi everybody.

It's a topic that i know everybody would have opinions on.
I have begun collecting music so that i would become more exposed to the various rhythms and music in bellydance.
so far i have some Tony Muzayek, Hossam Ramzy, Amr Diab, and Hakim but mostly its compilation arabic music i have..

anyway, do any of you down load music from websites? or do you just purchase cd's? and if so where would be some good sites to go?

which other artist do you think i should consider having as part of my collection. I have been told to try and get some music by George Abdo and expand my Hossam Ramzy collection of 3 cd's thus far.

I am also wondering if to expand my collection beyond egyptian artists, to include lebanese, turkish etc etc, does anybody have any ideas?
thing is since i am learning the egyptian style bellydance, i was wondering if it makes sense going beyond egyptian musicians (it might sound stupid and insular but be kind please? lol)

any suggestions will be great! thanks

The place I've found has a great range of music to download, and yes it's legal!, is emusic.com. Although it has a monthly subscription (which I have bought) you can also download at a pay per track fee.
It has an incredible range of the older styles as well as loads of modern egyptian music.
I've got Amr Diab, George Abdo, Hakim (pop), Hossam Ramzy, Mohammed El-Bakkar, Moktar al Said, Natacha Atlas (modern fusion), as well as a bunch of definitely fusion styles that include Loop Guru, Hamdi El-Khayatt, Christophe Goze and others - all from emusic! I'm not in their payroll I promise, but I have found there is such a wide variety of music available there that I haven't looked anywhere else recently.

You can only download from rapidshare every 3 hours if you don't have a subscription, but good stuff at Passionate Music. Albums that have part1/2 mens you can't open the zip/rar until the other parts are downloaded, as the program has split large files.

I also like CDbaby, lots of stuff there, you can elect to download or have CDs posted out. I also am a paying member of payplay.com. I use to use emusic, it is OK, but for me not a huge sesletion, and I don't like the ongoing monthly thing. payplay also doesn't have a huge selection but is getting better all the time, and it is a pay as you go, which is much better.

I use ITunes a fair bit, you can get a lot of Hossam Ramzy that way and others. On the whole the best stuff I have found comes from CDs produced by and for dancers though and this tends to not be available via download. These CDs have generally been put together at great expense by the dancer for little actual return - they mostly do it for the love of it. When you see a production like this do make sure you buy the CD rather than copy it off someone so you can support their efforts!

CDs of this type that I can totally recommend are all three of Yasmina of Cairo's CDs and Leila of Cairo's second CD "Sukara". Fantastic music recorded with amazing musicians and worth every penny.

Hi Helena,
Do you have links to those recommendation, also do I understand it is music produced by Dancer? How that work.~ Mahmoud

I swear this is not a plug for our store but since I carry two such CD's and you were asking... I thought I'd post about them. One is from our own Outi Al Amoura and the other is Leyla Lanty's Golden Days, Enchanting Nights

I can recommend Outi's Al Amoura CD too!

I usually get my music from Belly dance costume & belly dance supplies at Aladdin's Cave - will have to look at the Bellydance forum shop too, thanks Salome!
